Vrtra came to us in a 40 gallon front-opening glass enclosure. A decade or so ago, when I first started considering getting a bearded dragon and began researching their care requirements, it seemed that a 40 gallon breeder tank with a 36" x 18" footprint was THE golden standard. After spending a week watching Vrtra in one that size, I'm convinced it's utterly inhumane to keep an active lizard that grows to 18-24" long on average in such a small enclosure. I made it two days before I ordered a new Zen Habitats 4' x 2' x 2' enclosure for him. It should be arriving later today according to the tracking information. In the meantime, when Vrtra seems to be getting too stir crazy in his enclosure, he's been getting to roam around the room a bit. He felt brave enough yesterday to hold his ground when Bun Bun hopped up to see what he was doing, although there was some hissing and defensive posturing when she got too sniffy through the exercise pen bars. 😂
