Vrtra came to us in a 40 gallon front-opening glass enclosure. A decade or so ago, when I first started considering getting a bearded dragon and began researching their care requirements, it seemed that a 40 gallon breeder tank with a 36" x 18" footprint was THE golden standard. Look who decided to venture out of her cave last night. 😁 She was really enjoying slithering over and around that birch pole. I might have to swing by Hobby Lobby this week to see if they have some others; this happens to be one of the weeks when things in the floral department are 50% off, which makes the birch poles a pretty decent deal. Funnily enough, the bundles of smaller birch "logs" don't fall into one of the discounted categories for some reason. 🤔

I got $4 in free ETH from Coinbase tonight. All I had to do was click through the slides on the Coinbase Earn page, then download the Coinbase Wallet app on my phone and link it to my Coinbase account. Okay, not so spectacular, but what caught my attention when I was poking around the app is that it gives super simple access to OpenSea, where one can create NFTs. I'm not sure Waffle knows what to think of today's weather, but he's loving watching all the snowflakes falling out the window from his warm vantage point on the couch.
I got a call from the veterinary laboratory today. They confirmed that Vrtra has moderate levels of pinworms, which was right in line with what I was expecting. The good news is it's ONLY pinworms that are of concern, so it's going to be a short, easy course of treatment to get those levels under control again.
Did you know that some lizards love playing in water? Vrtra is one of those, and he's figured out that he can signal he's ready for a bath by bonking his nose on the doors of his vivarium and staring me down until I get the right idea. Once I put him in there he'll swim and splash, and if I turn the faucet on he'll even try to hunt the water as it flows down the drain. But I've seen wild lizards play like that, too. The little fence lizards that frolic on our patio in summer…
Vrtra normally chooses to sleep sprawled on top of his rock, but he's changed things up a bit lately. Last night he crashed on the floor of his vivarium with his nose in the corner and his foot resting against the door. The notice on the bug site said that orders wouldn't be shipped between February 23 and February 25 due to weather concerns. I placed my order on February 21 thinking I'd squeaked in just before the deadline. The shipping label was created the next day, and there it sat until the 26th... It's out for delivery today. The bugs arrived in good shape, and the lizards all got their treats. It doesn't seem to be Cookie's turn to have the shared leopard gecko brain cell, though. When I first offered him the hornworm, he kept trying to hunt its shadow instead! 😅
