Beach with purple sand

Pfeiffer Beach is located in California. It offers a unique view, but it is very windy so it is not attractive to tourists, swimmers, or surfers. On the beach, there is a huge rock that has an opening (known as a keyhole)

The purple color of the sand comes from the mineral manganese found in the surrounding rocks, which the sea washes to the beach. The appearance of purple sand in large quantities is best seen after a winter storm, when it sometimes looks more pink, and rarely green.
