OUR OWN STAR We can see about 5,000 stars with the naked eye. Light started with 471 of them less than 100 years ago. Almost all the others are no more than 600-700 light years away, most of them are up to 1000 light years away. All the others are the most distant up to 3000 light years and after that, we see only 26 stars.
