Does that lake naturally appear red, or did you get this shot using a filter of some sort?
The lake water typically evaporates by the end of summer and exposes the white lake bed. By mid-summer and due to high evaporation rates and salt concentrations, the lake water turns pinkish red as a result of the red tide within the lake. There are no fish in Maharlu Lake.
Okay, that's interesting. So this lake is kinda like the Great Salt Lake in Utah, I would imagine. It's interesting that various life forms can still thrive in such a (to us) hostile environment.
