'WHAT'S YOUR UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE IN A PUBLIC HOSPITAL?' I don't have money at that time. I just move from the province (Batangas) to the big city (Manila). I just started working in government but I haven't received my salary yet. I was sick. I feel so bad that I can't eat, or even stand. My sister who's with me at that time insist to bring me to the hospital but I refuse because we don't have money. She said she will take me to Sta. Ana Hospital and it's free there because we they already have our records. So I gathered up my strength to get up and go to the hospital. I lift my purse with just Php100 and coins. We don't have much so I can't take a taxi. We ride the jeepney twice to get there. We stand in the queue. I was shaking and feel sick and I did puke. After a long queue, the nurse in the reception told me to go to the registration. And when I got there the nurse told me to get a blood test and x-ray done. So I ask where surely they have all the facilities which are FREE. And she told me that I have to go somewhere not that far to get it done and it's a private one that I should pay for. She said that their X-ray and the others are broke so they cannot accommodate me. Like really? I told her I don't have money and that's why I'm here in FREE PUBLIC HOSPITAL! But no, she said I have to have money. I was fuming! I run outside even it was raining at that time. I was shaking because I was so mad. I went home with my sister and you know what? When we reach home I was perfectly fine and feel so much better! That day I promised myself, I will never run out of money and I should always have savings under my skin. And I did. And I go to a private Doctor after that. That's in the Philippines and it's not just one time that a supposedly free hospital for everyone isn't free at all. That's why you should have emergency money, savings that you can use because it's not easy to get sick in the Philippines even you have Philhealth. If you don't have money, they will not treat you. It's just sad that money comes first before their sworn duty. And I don't hate Doctors, Nurses and Staff, I salute them. It's the management. What's your story?
