The truth is, we're never truly free until we're financially free. That's why I don't think it's a good idea to say "I'm independent." Because if you aren't financially independent, then you're not really independent at all. It means that you have enough money in savings to cover all of your expenses for an entire year. It means that every month after putting aside money for bills and other expenses, there's still some left over. It means that when the bills come due, there's enough cash in the bank to cover them without having to worry about going into debt or falling behind on other things.
