Ramadan Memories - Around the Table! It's been a month since Ramadan is over but the memories are still very fresh. I miss the family time, the moments we spent around the table. No need to say, a big part of Ramadan is about food. It brings sich a holy spirit when we spend time before breaking our fast during the afternoon, having all the foods in front of us but we wait for the time. We pray but before that we gossip. We all put our effort to prepare and plate the food.…

Just when we think we have learned the way to live, life changes. Today, one of my closest neighbors went abroad and they will probably stay there for a decade or so. I was really attached to her, she was like my sister. Our sons were also of similar age, they used to play together a lot. I will sure miss them. For the last couple of days, I was helping her with packing, shopping for the last-minute things, and all. She was also quite busy finishing her visa, vaccination,…

Tale of a happy Sunday. I went to my old living place after years! This city is a concrete jungle but it’s our home. I call it home. this city still makes me feel comfortable. The highrises seem suffocating but we breathe and live here. I used to live in this place once but shifted to a residential area two years ago. But I sure miss this place. Probably it’s not the place itself but the memories I left behind… Last week I had some work near my old living area. I could see…

We never see what's coming!! *Gun violence. One after another, multiple incidents a day.* *We don't have to go far for example. What happened to our own country the day before yesterday. Yes, I'm referring to the Sitakund incident.* It may seem I'm giving extraneous examples. But wait. Don't you think that all we do are the karma of our own choices? Our own action? I strongly believe so. img https://pixabay.com/photos/glass-window-broken-cracked-89068/ The thing is, that we…

Not just a breathing space but peace of eyes. My eyes are too tired of seeing all the highrises and city lights. It was the one afternoon after many days when I find peace of eyes. *I'm talking about the entrance of the Folk art fair of Sonargaon- Bangladesh. It's a huge place covering many historical tourist spots. This lake is covering the whole place and it added a great view to the location. During this hot summer, we needed a break. What could be more perfect than this…

A quick snack that I learned from TikTok. While scrolling on social media this snack recipe popped into my feed. It seemed really easy, less time-consuming, and tasty. What else does a lazy cook like me need more! So I didn't wait long to try it. The recipe is too simple, only takes a few ingredients. Let's see. **What do we need?** Three big potatoes 1/2 cup corn flour 1/4 cup flour Salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder (optional) Oil Let me share how I made…

The painful face of poverty. We see hunger every day. Homeless, street beggars, and children are an everyday problem here. In Bangladesh homeless people, especially children are very common in city areas. I have grown up seeing them. So after having everyday interaction with them they don't bother us or make us much uncomfortable anymore. But I know for sure how you would feel passing by them. *I can recall a memory of my experience six years ago. Maybe that's a familiar…

A very traditional meal. We grew up having this food every now and then. Also, as our cuisine is all about spicy food and a lot of different flavors so this always gives me comfort. Last week I went outside for some work, took a break, visited a shopping mall, and found a local restaurant that offers a wide variety of traditional food. What could be best as a meal than trying something traditional, right? We call this chicken chapp. It's a fried chicken item usually enjoyed…

Cost Cutting. Inflation is going sky high. Our cost of living increased by 30%. It's not a statistic but what I feel in daily life. To be very honest I never in my life felt the pressure of cost-cutting like what I'm feeling now. *Dollar climbs to a 20-year high on inflation fears. All the local currencies are losing their value to a great extent. If we look at the crypto market, then all we will see are red candles. This situation is not good for anyone, globally. Wait, by…

Social contribution - We don't need to have 'more'. I was pretty confused about this when I was young. My thought was people need to do bigger things like running a charity or making employment opportunities to contribute to society. That was a foolish thought for sure. *Growing up with this, I came to realize our culture and social perspective has a big role play on designating this thought. I have seen how housewives, women in general get less in every aspect of life…

What could be better than a fine homemade meal! Chicken makes everything better, right? Yesterday, some guests suddenly came to visit us. I was so happy but at the same time was feeling anxious thinking about what could I serve them. They were not into the rice so I came up with this meal. I prepared some BBQ-style chicken with some paratha, which felt like a perfect combo. Also, the recipe is nothing complicated so it quite served my purpose. Let me share my process of…

Finally purchased a firm mattress. Back pain became an everyday struggle for me! I heard about the firm mattress but as they are a bit pricy so never thought about buying one. A few days ago I saw a discount post on my social media feed of a popular mattress company/brand and decided to buy one this time. I could no longer deal with my back pain. Every day after waking up it used to feel like my whole body is in discomfort, especially my back. I do some freehand exercise but…

Water saves our lives, the same water takes lives too! *The northeast region of Bangladesh is facing one of the worse floods in history. That means people who had no idea what to do during a flood and no means to save them are fighting with it. That means a total collapse of a region for months. That means much more than these. Bangladesh is one of the most flood-prone countries in the world. Floods have huge costs for Bangladesh, both in terms of lives, property,…

Roadside gardening - An opportunity to have homegrown food at a low cost. In my hometown, I have seen many households that produce their own fruits and vegetable on the roadside. They don't own the place, mostly those places are government-owned. But the authority also appreciates such initiative. Also, I get to see this in the capital as well but not as much as in the countryside. My in-laws also have a small garden on the roadside. The surprising thing is, although they…

Who wants some refreshing java apple? There was a time when Java apple was highly available in my region but not anymore. I rarely find it in our markets. Also, there were many varieties which I don't find anymore. Back then summer means a refreshing taste of java apple almost every day. The taste is watery with a touch of sweetness and a slight bitter & tangy flavor. Now, whenever I find this I try to buy some for home. You can make a salad or eat it raw. I wouldn't say…

The city of overhead wires. What is one of the common things you will get to see in Dhaka? The answer will obviously is overhead wires. It's everywhere, the whole city is wrapped with millions of wires. Fortunately, they are mostly ethernet cables that's why the incidents are low in number. This makes the city looks much more chaotic. Also, walking on the street, and seeing the sights are never fun only because of the wires. I don't know why the authority never takes any…

A day into my life. My day starts with nurturing the plants of my small balcony garden. I'm blessed that I have about 25 different plants with many colorful flowers. It feels incredible to see their growth and look at different colors, especially when I live in a city full of highrises. Most of the day I take a cup of coffee depending on my mood and spend around half an hour on my balcony. It's necessary to have gained the energy and have some 'me time' to start a busy day…

Off-beat restaurant | Our mood went 'off'! This place is famous for its different kinds of interior. I had no idea that I would have a bad experience with the food. Maybe I'm a fool because I didn't take the time to take a look at the reviews. They have some swings and rickshaws (man-pulled three-wheeler vehicles) as sitting arrangements side by side regular sofa. Kids, as well as adults, love to take a seat there and enjoy their meal. When there was no rickshaw seat…

Phases. *I wish I could say like a teenager, "I kinda like being sick, I like when someone takes care of me."* Unfortunately, I'm not a teenager anymore nor this quote will fit anywhere in my life. We change, time makes us a different person, it comes with a lot of responsibilities, and it has some phases. I wouldn't say I regret anything. But yes, there's something that I still wish for. Like that silly thing to say to someone. For the last couple of days, I'm suffering…
