There will be no more impeachment of Sara Duterte as the Supreme Court ruled the impeachment complaint as unconstitutional. According to the court, the four complaints filed with only one transmitted to the Senate violates the one year ban on filing multiple impeachment complaints against a public official. It turns out Sara Duterte who wanted a “bloodbath” sought to question instead the impeachment on technicalities rather than face the accusations head on. This is how accountability of our highest public officials shall die from here on. One where truth, facts, and evidence will be hidden and buried under legalese and technicalities rather than being bared for all the public to see. Whatever happened to the principle that public office is a public trust when the public aren’t even given the chance to see and scrutinize the evidence themselves? Instead, it’s the institutions of our country that work together to protect each other. This is how you erode the people’s trust in institutions. Hindi lang ang impeachment ang ibinasura ng Supreme Court. Ibinasura din nito ang karapatan ng taumbayan na malaman ang katotohanan.
