How to Be Confident When You Speak In almost all of my 1:1 sessions for Kahit Kabado™, one thing kept coming up: “I know the answer… I just don’t know how to say it.” That used to be me in college. I barely raised my hand in class, and I missed so many chances because I was scared to speak. Until I got tired of wasting my own potential. From a shy student, I eventually gave my first international speech in the US for Toastmasters International, and this year, my first TED Talk at DLSU. Here’s what helped me: 1. Create an outline, not a full script. Writing a full script can make you sound robotic or feel pressured to memorize everything. An outline helps you stay on track while allowing you to speak naturally. It gives your brain space to think and your words room to breathe. 2. Practice out loud (mirror or camera!) Thinking in your head isn’t the same as actually speaking. Practicing out loud trains your mouth and brain to work together under pressure. When you watch yourself, you also become more aware of your tone, pace, and body language. 3. Focus on connection, not perfection. Your audience won’t remember every word. They’ll remember how you made them feel. Instead of aiming for perfect grammar or delivery, aim to speak from the heart. Confidence grows when you shift your focus from yourself to the people you’re helping.
