I remember being invited to a gathering, feeling grateful and even joyful for the chance to be there. But deep down… there was a heaviness in my heart. Something just felt off. And for a long time, I questioned myself. Am I overthinking? Am I being too sensitive? Should I just try harder? But maturity has taught me this. An invitation can be obligation. A welcome is intention. An invitation gives you access. A welcome makes space for you. And I don’t say this with bitterness. I say this with clarity. It’s a hard truth, but it’s reality: not every invitation comes with genuine welcome. Sometimes the door opens, but the space isn’t meant to hold your heart. And that’s okay ….being grateful doesn’t mean ignoring the signs. We still need to protect our hearts. Discernment is key. Your feelings matter, but more than that, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. He sees what others may hide and gives wisdom to recognize where you truly belong. As the Bible reminds us in John 1:11, “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” Even Jesus experienced being present but not fully welcomed. So if you sense that heaviness, don’t ignore it. Protect your heart. Step back when you feel unseen. You don’t have to force warmth where there is none. You don’t have to prove your worth in rooms that barely acknowledge it. The right spaces won’t just invite you. They will embrace you. Trust that God is preparing spaces where your presence will be celebrated, your gifts honored, and fully welcomed. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is quietly excuse yourself and trust that God is preparing tables where you won’t just be present… you’ll be valued. And sometimes the wisest thing is quietly walking away not with bitterness, but with faith, gratitude, and peace. 🪴
