Went out for a walk this morning with BabyRah and hadnt gone far when we saw a very distressed woman who was trying to walk deliberately into the traffic. As we approached many cars just swerved and passed her by and one woman on a bike stopped and shouted at her. Now I dont know about you but I can't sit back and watch something like this. So i went to her and shepherded her as much as possible away from the road with mixed results. I was a bit worried she might get aggressive. However she was too distressed to be and so my priority was keeping her safe while MamaRah called the police. In the meantime i just carried on and tried calming her down. A few times she said "my baby" and at one point she wanted to see BabyRah and then backed off as though the thought of a baby both drew her and traumatised her. It was only after a while that I could smell alcohol but I suggest that was a mask for her distress rather than her reason. After urging many cars to go passed us I finally got her off the road and she fainted. I caught her and at that point two more passersby started helping but it was still mainly down to me to keep her safe. After a moment she got up again and so it all started again. In the mean time where the hell are the police. It must have been more than 10 mins since MamaRah called them and we have a police station a 3 minute drive away. And so it continued. At one point she was very amicable and in the next she was saying "dont touch me" (I was only touching her slightly with open arms every time she drifted to the road or made a decisive move to try to throw herself in front of a moving car). Finally the police came - after maybe 20 mins - and just at the point when another passerby thought I was the cause of her distress. She then collapsed again and as she did so I noticed her legs were banged up with a lot of bruises and old scars that had been stitched. She was only wearing a very short skirt even though she was pretty well dressed on top. By the time thev police reached us she was flat on the floor and they took over and rolled her into the recovery position at which time a white foam started coming from her mouth. Her pulse had also dropped. The police called for an ambulance which again took some time to arrive and they took over. At this point MamaRah and I decided to resume our walk, She commented that on the second collapse she noticed that the poor girl had no knickers on. I fear that something terrible happened to her and it may have involved losing a baby somehow. Many many years ago I saw a girl in a similar condition and she had been raped and was pregnant. She was only 14. So I can only imagine it might be something similar although this woman was somewhere between 20 - 30 Hope she will be ok
