I may sound like a bit of a nerd here. Big fan of Star Trek and especially the 1990s incarnations. Not seen Picard yet but not too impressed with Discovery tbh However I thought the ultimate Star Trek enemy, The Borg were a unique Star Trek creation. Turns out I was wrong! In 1990 in Blake's 7 Series 3 Episode 10 Ultraworld our heroes encounter a metallic sphere dominated by an over mind that has "menials" working for it, all controlled by the central mind. The over mind grows through "transference" (adding their uniqueness to the collective) and absorption (assimilation) and the menials are like "the walking dead" And finally to cap it all "you cannot resist the power of the core it overcomes everything" or in Star Trek language "Resistance is futile"
