Heard a news story yesterday that BT (British Telecom) is going to phase out traditional landlines over the next three years. It will mark the passing of an era and while similar handsets will still be available they will only work over an internet protocol. It cast my mind to thinking about the last time i actually used a landline. I have had a mobile since 2001 and I think there was a year or so when i was using both so let's say 20 years. Our current media contract, TV and internet, has a landline as part of the deal, but we have never even plugged a phone in. We only have it because in a similar way to a MacDonald's meal it is cheaper to have the three-in-one deal than have the two elements independently i guess for some younger people, they have never used one or may not even know what one is, but when was the last time you used your landline?
