So if I have to make transactions on Ethereum, do I have to live with the high gas fees or is there a way to still make the transactions with long waits while I pay less in fees? Any idea?

If your ETH is with an exchange - could you convert it to something with lower fees (like BCH), transfer that, and then convert it back to ETH afterwards? Even with a spread both ends you might make a saving.
That’s a great hack! I didn’t think of that. Thank you! And subscribed to you!
people have mentioned Loopring to me as a way to avoid fees but i haven't done the research on that protocol and it doesn't do everything.
If you're lucky and the fees drop, you can try less. But it's a gamble. Look at the last two weeks. https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#2,2w
