There's a place in Goa where someone's face is carved in stone. Some say it's Buddha, some say it's Shiva. The Shivaites even put their trident on it. In Laos, I visited the Tham Xang Caves. The first photo shows the entrance to the caves against a background of growing figs and wild honeybees. These caves were used by Lao guerrillas to hide in when they were bombed by US bombers. The caves were dark, damp and scary. Every winter I lived in the Indian state of Goa. I spent the winter and half of the spring there. When at the end of April the heat became unbearable, I travelled across India to Nepal. It was cooler in Nepal, so I went to Pokhara, a famous city among all the backpackers in the world, and lived there until early summer. Only after that would I return home.
