Did you know? The oldest house in Aveyron in France, built in the 13th century. The houses were then built with a smaller ground floor because they were taxed per square meter of the ground floor, so people built it to pay less tax. The houses are recognizable, because each floor was bigger than the previous one.

Very interesting construction, taxes were paid on the ground floor and that is why each floor is getting bigger.
I didn't know about houses like this, and people just remembered how to pay less taxes :) :) :)
