Performing maintenance on a Walkman Recently I was performing maintenance on a Walkman, produced by the General Electric company; because I decided to learn how to repair and maintain electronic equipment. This device as it has been with me for many years and without using it I grabbed it as a practice.
The equipment itself is in good condition; that is, it has been preserved in its physical appearance, it has no scratches or bumps, the only detail is that it can only play cassettes. When I opened it I noticed how dirty it was inside, because of that I had to clean the case with a brush.
As for what has been its electronic components such as the board, it was also dirty, so I had to use isopropyl alcohol.
The only detail I managed to get was a piece of magnetic tape that was stuck between its playback mechanisms.
After putting everything back in its place look for a cassette to see if it played, which was achieved but at a slow pace. And after researching on YouTube I found two possible causes: 1- the lack of regulation of the playback speed of the device, something that is due after having manipulated it when checking its internal parts, and whose solution was to use a screwdriver to turn a small hole that allows it to return to normal. 2- that the league that joins the gears lost elasticity or became very rigid, so it must be changed for another one, or, boil the one we have in water for 15 minutes.
Regarding the first point: I carried it out but the problem still persisted. From there we move on to the second point: to change the league I have to buy it online, but, since I live in Venezuela we have blocked payment methods such as PayPal and the like, so buying online abroad is quite an odyssey; and, as for the method of boiling the league I stay pending, so I will do it as soon as I can. We will see if in the future I make it work again as it should, if it succeeded I will let you know. Have any of you been presented with a situation similar to this? Did they manage to get a solution? I read them in the comments box 👀💬 **Source of the** images Images captured with my Amazon Fire 8 tablet.
