Short story: Luke's Forgotten Treasure

It was a sunny day in the small town of Valle Verde, and Lucas, a 25-year-old with a great passion for video games, decided to visit an antique store he had heard about from a friend. Since childhood, he had dreamed of having a video game collection that included the iconic Nintendo 64, the console that had marked his childhood and that he had shared countless hours of fun with his friends. As he entered the store, a smell of aging wood and dust enveloped him. The walls were covered with shelves full of curious objects: antique clocks, worn furniture and retro toys. Lucas felt like a kid in a candy store. While exploring, he met his friend Javier, a video game enthusiast like him. "Lucas! What are you doing here? Javier asked, smiling as he went through a box full of vinyl records. “I came to look for something special. I'm looking for a Nintendo 64 for my collection”" Lucas replied enthusiastically. "Good luck. I've heard that some collectors have found real gems here," Javier said, winking at her. Lucas continued his search around the store and, in the background, in a dimly lit corner, he saw a box full of items that seemed to be garbage: old game cartridges, worn-out controllers and faded manuals. His heart was pounding hard when he noticed a familiar flash. He reached over and pulled out a Nintendo 64 cartridge that appeared to be in acceptable condition. "Look at this!"exclaimed Lucas, holding the cartridge with both hands. “It's a classic.” Javier quickly approached. "Incredible! He seems to have seen better days though... Are you going to buy it?” "Definitely. With a little restoration it could work again”" Lucas replied as he examined the cartridge. Both friends headed to the counter where the store owner, Doña Clara, an older woman with a kind smile and bright eyes, greeted them. “Did you find anything interesting?"Doña Clara asked as she searched the cartridge and the controller that Lucas had decided to take with him. "Yes, this Nintendo 64 cartridge. How much does it cost?"Lucas asked anxiously. “Let me see... Ah! This one is special. I'll let you have it for ten dollars”" Dona Clara said with a smile. Lucas couldn't believe his luck. “Deal is done!"he exclaimed as he was paying. With the cartridge and the controller in hand, Lucas returned home full of excitement. In his room, surrounded by posters of his favorite games and shelves full of classic titles, he sat down at his work table. He took out tools and cleaning products that he had been accumulating for similar projects. “Let's make it shine," he muttered as he began to clean the cartridge carefully. Several hours passed between online tutorials and meticulous tests; each step brought him closer to reliving that forgotten treasure. After a lot of effort, he managed to restore the cartridge and the controller. Nervously, he plugged everything into his TV and turned on the console. The screen came to life with the vibrant colors of the classic game. "Yes! It works!"Lucas shouted as he jumped for joy. At that moment he decided it was time to share his success with other collectors. The next day, he organized an online sale to showcase his video game collection, including the restored Nintendo 64. He posted carefully taken photos and wrote detailed descriptions about each item. Soon after, he received enthusiastic messages from other collectors interested in his items. One of them was Sofia, a friend from school who also shared her love for video games. "Lucas, I've seen your post! I am interested in the restored cartridge,” Sofia wrote to her. "Hello Sofia! Sure, we can make a deal. I also have other games if you're interested," Lucas replied excitedly. The day of the sale arrived and Lucas prepared everything in his living room: tables full of games organized by console and carefully labeled boxes. Javier arrived early to help him organize everything. “This looks great," Javier commented as he put some games in order. "I'm sure you're selling a lot today.” When interested buyers began to arrive, the room quickly filled with laughter and lively conversations about retro video games. Sofia arrived soon after and approached Lucas with a big smile. “I can't believe you restored that cartridge! I always wanted to play it again," she said excitedly. Lucas handed him the cartridge as they exchanged stories about their favorite games and the adventures they had had together in childhood. The sale was a resounding success; he not only sold several items but also made new friends in the collecting community. At the end of the day, Lucas felt satisfied not only for the profits obtained but for having shared his passion with other enthusiasts like him. From that day on, he continued to look for more forgotten treasures in antique shops and local markets, always hoping to find another jewel for his collection.
