Short story: Covacha-Con: An Epic Disaster
It was a bright sunny day in Mexico City, and the bustle of the city throbbed with a special energy. In the midst of this urban chaos, a group of friends was preparing to attend the Covacha-Con 2025, the largest anime and comic convention in the city. With their cosplay costumes, they looked more like a parade of cartoon characters than a normal group of young people. Diego, a tall, thin guy with curly hair and an infectious smile, had dressed up as Spider-Man. His red and blue suit fit his figure perfectly, and he felt so powerful that he even tried to throw cobwebs with a rope he had brought. However, the result was a disaster: the rope got tangled in her arm and almost made Sofia, who was disguised as Sailor Moon, fall. Sofia was a petite girl with long shiny hair, adorned with a golden tiara that glittered in the sun. Her costume was impeccable, but her patience was running out. - Watch out! she screamed as she dodged the impromptu attack. Don't make me lose my tiara! The group arrived at the University House of the Book (Casul) just as the doors were opening. The excitement was palpable, but so was the chaos. At the entrance, a man in a Pikachu costume was trying to do a choreography with his dance group, but he only managed to trip over his own tail. Miguel, a robust and always smiling boy, couldn't help but laugh. - What is that? - Miguel asked, pointing to the fallen Pikachu. "It's the new 'Pika-noise'," replied Laura, who had short hair and wore large glasses that gave her an intellectual air. Looks like he needs more training! Once inside, the group quickly dispersed. Diego and Sofia went to the coloring workshop taught by Federico Blee, a famous Marvel Comics colorist. Meanwhile, Laura and Miguel decided to attend a talk about the history of comics in Mexico, where they hoped to learn about their favorite heroes. Andrés, a tall guy with a great passion for video games, and Valeria, an outgoing girl with curly hair and a love for strong female characters, rushed towards the sales tables as if they were magnets attracted by collectible figures. At the workshop, Diego was so excited that he almost forgot that he had to take notes. Instead, he started drawing a portrait of Spider-Man in a Mexican sombrero. - Why are you putting a hat on him? - Sofia asked laughing while looking at her masterpiece. — Because it's very “web” Mexican - Diego replied with a mischievous smile. Meanwhile, in the talk about comics, Miguel raised his hand to ask: - And why do superheroes never go to the bathroom? The speaker looked at him confused and the rest of the audience burst into laughter. Laura looked at him in disbelief. - Really? Was that your question? - he said while trying to hold back the laughter. The second day was even more chaotic. The group decided to participate in a cosplay contest. Diego proposed that everyone dress up as characters from "One Piece", but no one had any idea how to do it right. In the end, they ended up looking more like lost pirates than anime heroes. During her presentation on stage, Valeria tripped over her cardboard sword and fell to the ground with a crash worthy of a comic movie. The audience erupted in laughter as she tried to stand up with dignity. - Everything under control! Valeria shouted from the ground as she tried to retrieve her sword. This was part of the act! Andres couldn't contain his laughter as he recorded everything with his phone. Finally, when the convention came to an end, the group left the venue dragging bags full of comics and collectible figures. Although they had had some disastrous moments and uncontrollable laughter, everyone was happy. "We have to come back next year," Sofia said as she adjusted her undone tiara. But maybe we should practice our costumes more. "Or at least make sure we don't use cardboard swords," Diego added with a mischievous smile. And so, amid laughter and ridiculous anecdotes, the group left La Covacha-Con behind, knowing that they had lived an unforgettable experience... although not necessarily worthy of an epic anime. The city welcomed them back with its familiar sounds; however, they brought with them something more valuable: shared memories that would unite them even more in their future geek adventures.
