Short story: Guardians of the Home

Clara was in her room, enjoying the tranquility offered by her personal space. The walls were adorned with posters of his film and music idols, creating a vibrant atmosphere that reflected his personality. Collectible figures from video games and anime filled the shelves, each with its own story and meaning. The air conditioning, set at 18 degrees Celsius, provided welcome relief from the outside heat, which was making itself felt strongly in the desolate streets of his neighborhood. However, her peaceful moment was interrupted by the loud tone of her phone, a pop song that echoed in the room as a reminder of the reality that surrounded her. It was Sofia, her friend and classmate. - Clara, where are you? We are waiting for you — Sofia asked, with a tone that mixed concern and urgency. Clara felt a twinge of anxiety when she heard her friend's voice. She knew that the evening promised fun, but she was also aware of the responsibilities that beset her. - I'm at home. Why? - she replied, trying to sound unconcerned. "I just wanted to know if you're coming or not," Sofia insisted, her voice heavy with expectation. —I don't think I can go to Cyberia," Clara admitted, feeling the disappointment seep into her voice. The return train was delayed, it seems that there was another "accident" on the tracks. - Yes, we know. Something like that always happens. I told you this early so that you could come home with the others — Sofia replied, a little frustrated. At that moment, another girl appeared on the screen, with pigtails and a big smile that lit up her face. - Clara, we're going to miss you! We'll need you at the club—" he exclaimed, his enthusiasm almost palpable. One more friend, with long hair and a sash that gave her a playful air, joined the conversation laughing. - Clara, did you do your homework? - he asked, with a mocking tone. - What homework? - Clara asked, surprised and a little alarmed. - The essay on the value of women in society. It has to be delivered tomorrow - the friend replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "I haven't done it," Clara confessed, looking down despondently at the floor, feeling that the weight of responsibility was crushing her. "It seems that you will not lack for fun—" Sofia replied, cheerfully, trying to cheer her up. - That's right! - they all laugh before ending the call, leaving Clara alone with her thoughts. Clara remained silent, motionless, with her mind barely functioning. The pressure of the task and the expectation of her friends overwhelmed her. She felt trapped between the desire to enjoy the evening with her friends and the reality of her school obligations. Finally, she decided that a bath could help her clear her mind and regain energy. He got up from his chair and went to the bathroom. The hot water enveloped her, and gradually, the tension in her muscles began to fade. While she was taking a shower, her mind wandered between memories of happy times with her friends and the growing anxiety about the essay she had to turn in. On leaving, she changed into a bear-shaped pajamas, feeling more comfortable and lighter. She returned to the table, ready to begin her rehearsal. He looked at the blank paper, looking for inspiration to start his writing. He thought about the women who have contributed to the well-being of humanity, but he couldn't remember any names. The leaf seemed to mock her, empty and defiant. Suddenly, her mother called her from the living room. - Clara, let's eat! - he shouted, his voice echoing in the hallway with a familiar and cozy tone. "I'm coming, Mom," Clara replied, feeling that the idea of food was more attractive than the task that awaited her. As she walked down the stairs, she saw her mother waiting for her patiently at the table, a warm smile lighting up her face. That image inspired her to think about the women who go unnoticed in society, whose contributions are little recognized. Mothers and wives who take care of the well-being of their families, the true guardians of the home. As they shared the meal, Clara watched her mother, noticing the small gestures of love and dedication that often went unnoticed. The way she served food, the way she made sure everyone had enough on their plates, and how she always smiled, even after a long day at work. Clara felt a surge of gratitude and admiration for her, and at that moment, she understood that her mother was a perfect example of the strength and sacrifice that many women made in silence. After dinner, Clara said goodbye to her mother with a hug, feeling that this connection filled her with energy. She returned to her room with a new perspective, ready to begin her rehearsal. He sat down at his desk, the blank paper no longer seemed so intimidating to him. With determination, he took the pencil and began to write. "Women are the true guardians of the home," she wrote. "They are the ones who, often in the shadows, support their families with love and dedication. From mothers who wake up early to prepare breakfast to wives who balance work and home, their effort is fundamental to everyone's well-being." As the words flowed, Clara realized that she was not only writing about women in general, but that she was paying tribute to her own mother. She remembered the stories she had told him about her childhood, the difficulties she had faced and how she had always found a way to get ahead. Clara was inspired by her resilience and her ability to love unconditionally. Time passed without her noticing. The room was lit only by the soft light of his lamp, and the air conditioner was still humming softly. Clara immersed herself in her writing, each word a tribute to the women who had made invisible sacrifices, who had fought for their rights and who, despite adversity, had kept their families together. When she finished, Clara leaned back in her chair, satisfied. She had managed to capture not only the value of women in society, but also the essence of what it meant to be part of a family. She felt relieved and proud of her work, knowing that she had given a voice to those who were often forgotten. With a smile on her face, Clara saved her essay on her computer and got ready for bed. As she settled into her bed, she thought about what she had learned that night: that every woman, in her own way, is a keeper of the home, and that her story, although sometimes silent, deserves to be told and celebrated. With a light heart and a peaceful mind, Clara closed her eyes, ready to dream of a world where the contributions of all women were recognized and valued. Inside, she knew that she had begun a journey not only towards delivering an essay, but towards understanding and appreciating the stories that form the fabric of everyday life. And so, with that reflection, she let herself be carried away by the dream, feeling more connected than ever with her own story and that of all the women who came before her. Source of the images.
