This is my mom's true life story of rugs to riches. So, please take time to read this (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) She was born in a small town and has 9 siblings (including her) and their house was just a nipa hut or bahay kubo and where 1 peso was valuable. They only used gas lamps, candles and other stuff for lighting and had no television nor camera. My grandpa was just a fisherman and my grandma was a fishmonger (or also called a fish vendor) they only get small amounts of money to their big family. Sometimes they just eat rice with sugar or salt just to pass their hunger. My mom told me that when they want to watch tv they would go to the house where there's television and some of them would just watch from the window and some would come in the house. My mom dreamed of being successful one day so she can own the things she has never owned when she was a child. When her eldest sister got pregnant by her boyfriend, grandpa and grandma were so furious and said that "baka gusto nyo lang lahat na mag-asawa nalang? Ipapatigil na namin kayo sa pag-aaral kung ganon". My mom told me she cried when they said that to them and she said on her mind that "Tatapusin ko ang pag-aaral ko, magiging pursigido ako para maging maganda na buhay namin". That was her motivation. While she was still studying, she also worked because before there were mat weaving, basket weaving and other native products and they would sell them. She also worked as a bread vendor just to save up. She was the first to graduate college in their family and she took the financing course, she got a job on the local municipality here in the assessor's office up till today(she was the 5th child but she was the first one that graduated). I could say my grandpa was really proud of my mom because when she was the first one to graduate, grandpa stopped smoking and drinking alcohol. My other 3 aunts and 1 uncle also followed her in graduating college (they're the younger ones). When my mom married my dad some people here got envious because my dad was a seaman but they ignored those people and built a nice home and had us. My grandma (my dad's mom) once told my mom about dad where he would get in so much mischief, smoking and alcohol in his youth but when he met my mom he changed for the better. I could say my mom already got all the things she dreamed of back when she was a child. A nice home, a stable job, a loving spouse, a tv (lol) and the other things that she dreamed about through hard work and perseverance. 5/8/21 (4:24 p.m.) lemonade
