A portrait study of a little girl (oil on canvas paper). The reference I used was from my mentor, it was also a painting from the renaissance era. I'll edit this post if I ever got to know what painting it was and who the artist was. As you may notice, I only used earth tones for this painting, During pre-industrial revolution, it was mostly earth tones which were available as pigments for artists. Blue pigments were so rare that they are even more expensive than gold. 💙 You will only find a very select number of paintings which has the pigment blue in it which highlights the main subject of the artwork. It's amazing how an abundance of pigments are now available for artists in the modern era, not to mention the vast varieties of mediums as well. And yet during the olden days there were only a limited number of pigments and mediums but it did not limit the old masters from creating artworks that would transcend the test of time. 🎨🖌️

Excellent, it's admirable how your hair turned out, its shine and details, a long time ago i wanted to paint a face in oil and i didn't know how to do the hair to make it look natural, in my defense i had never worked with ole😋, the bad thing was that i didn't i tried more.
You can still always try. ❤️ I have an obsession with details and my skills improved over time as I painted and practiced. 🥰
Miss April 🤩 it is amazing, as you have told, it is full of earthy tones and that's what catches my eye because it looks like a very old paint. Even the technique looks legit. But now I know you're human: the right eye is slightly above from where it should be. And please, don't take it wrong because I don't want to annoy you. I just pay a lot of attention to your work because I love it. 💋
Oh no worries, it's fine. 🥰 With the time pressure to submit it right away and with the botched brushes I used that were hanging on to their dear life, I couldn't really do much into fixing all the details. 😆 Even my mentor also had things to say about my finished artwork but it's how artists improve their skills further. 🥰
Oh, I understand now. But why do you have that pressure, dear April? Oh, so true. I was staring at my old art and hardly find something good. Knowing your improvement is really AMAZING 🤩
Because my mentor wanted me to learn how to paint at a faster pace. I always tend to be too focused on perfecting even the smallest details that I always take too long finish a painting. He wanted me to loosen up a bit but I still have a long way to go. I'm still very detail oriented. He on the other hand could finish a mural size painting in less that a month.😅
Sacrificing details for quickness. Isn't that sketching? Nah, your mentor sure knows what he is teaching you. He must be so skilled. Does he share his works somewhere?
