AN EGG WITHOUT A MATE We are unaware of our bird's gender. It sits there alone in its cage, I would sometimes play with it. Yesterday, I was playing with it then when I went inside the house my father asked me if I saw the bird's egg that was cracked. He said it's Puti's egg which baffled me, since I thought it was impossible. He said that on the other night as my father was cleaning its waste, he saw an egg. That's when we found out that it was a female, but what left us curious is to how it produced an egg since it is just alone there. Looked it up on the internet and found out that female domesticated birds can actually lay eggs even in the absence of a male, but those eggs are unfertilized, therefore even if it is incubated it will never hatch. Luckily, I call her Eves (ibs ,short for ibon-filipino word of bird) it suits her since it's a she.
