Every year in August, Savaria, a Roman carnival, is held in my city, Szombathely. Savaria is the Roman name for my city. My city already existed in Roman times, my city had the most famous merchant route. The Roman city was destroyed by an earthquake, so there are plenty of old Roman buildings under our city. During the excavations, many pieces of ancient Roman columns, vessels, bones, and tools were found. This year, the four-day carnival will be missed due to Covid-19. But there will be programs on the weekend. At such times, residents of the entire city wear a white, Roman toga The evening torchlight procession will be canceled. And this is the most spectacular. The mayor arrives in a Roman horse-drawn carriage with a laurel wreath on his head. The history of the city is evoked by the residents dressed in different costumes. There is also a fair, you can buy a lot, 200,000 people usually attend this event. The programs take place in several places in the city. Lots of tourists used to visit here, hotels and boarding houses were always full. I photographed these photos a few years ago at the carnival. #myphotos #originalcontent
