Age's Timeline

Middle Age. Cities were overcrowded put little emphasis on cleanliness, personal hygiene, or sanitation. Characterized by great epidemics disease including leprosy, bubonic plague, syphilis, and smallpox. Bubonic plague (black death) resulted in more deaths than any war, famine, or natural disaster in history. To lessen susceptibility, hospitals were organized, quarantine was established guidelines were developing for safety, and streets were regularly swept clean.
