Górdilax The incandescent light of the sun woke me up; I knew from its position it was already very late, but I never imagined that 2 jars of fermented mead would make me lose consciousness for so long. All the others had left in search of the famous Górdilax fruit. A tradition that had lasted for many years in our village, so many that no one had any idea where it originated. It was not difficult to find the path, it was full of footprints, traces of the troop of teenagers desperate for their hormones to get a mate. Broken branches showed the way ahead. I had to be careful though, we were not the only species living in the forest; there were goblins, dwarves, elves, the dreaded orcs, and the nauseating trolls, as well as other creatures. As a child, my grandfather always told me that I should look for the best of the fruits if I wanted to have a good mate that would accompany me all my life, that would ensure success in my life. Obviously, his generation as well as his predecessors thought that fruit ensured the future of the species and would bring eternal happiness. *Yeah, sure! My destiny is written by a fruit* Being sarcastic, btw At the age of 15, we were already of age and had the "obligation" to comply with tradition. They say that every family has a black sheep as a member, a misfit who does not meet the standards of the society where we live and that misfit turned out to be me. I loved to know where our traditions, our religion, our customs came from. But to my surprise, everyone looked at me strangely for having such thoughts. They even took me to the great elder, magician, and mystic to exorcise me and turn me into an ordinary villager. I liked that old man, he simply examined me and told me there was nothing wrong with me. I had to pretend before the others, as they were not prepared for the kind of thinking that was beginning to be born in me. In his mystical predictions, he explained to me, he saw a new change and progress in our species, but that was still a long way off. I didn't really understand what he meant, but I listened anyway; here I was, with a huge hangover and ready to search for the damned Górdilax fruit and become an exemplary model of our tribe. My father passed away when I was just a child so my mother and grandfather took over my upbringing. My mother was very emotional the night of the ceremony. Her chest swelled with emotion and her eyes overflowed with tears of joy. How could I let her down? *What the hell*, I said to myself. *I had to try for my mother*. I never thought it would take me 3 days to find the famous tree; I know I exaggerated the time but in my opinion, you can never be too cautious about the dangers of the forest and besides, I didn't want to run into any of the other "chosen ones". Fortunately, my mother filled my backpack with enough biscuits and dried meat for a week. It truly was a big tree, imposing before the others, it could take a considerable time just to walk around its thick trunk. At the foot of the Górdilax, there were many fruits trampled, broken, ruined by the desperation of the "future" men of the village. The tree was more than 30 meters high and I had no idea how to reach the fruits at the top, the only ones that remained untouchable. There I was, in front of the tree, scratching my head, thinking how ridiculous it was to endanger my life by trying to reach a fruit that would ensure the "happiness" of my life; however, the situation represented a challenge and I loved challenges. I was meditating while chewing on a piece of meat when suddenly I heard a battle cry lashing out at the Górdilax. *What!? A girl?* Yes, a girl was throwing herself against the tree, using a pair of knives to climb up and reach the nearest fruit. Surprisingly, I wasn't the only abnormal in the tribe. Her red hair was in a braid that zigzagged behind her back in response to her climbing movements. The muscles in her arms were marked by the effort she applied as she tried, again and again, to thrust her knives to gain height. Her determination was impressive. My build was not that of a warrior, nor did I have the skills of a hunter to use a bow and shoot at one of the fruits. But my strange way of thinking always got me out of trouble in the simplest way. I sat down on the ground and began to observe the tree and its great height. I rummaged through my things inside my backpack and found a sharp knife. I remembered seeing some very long, straight branches not far from where I was sitting. So I decided to cut a few to form a big stick and tie my backpack to one end along with my knife. The sun was going down and it would soon get dark. I had finished my invention and glanced at the tree. The girl was still in her attempt and was barely halfway to her goal. It was not easy to lift the long rod as its weight had increased, so I decided to take it apart and added each section one after the other while supporting the whole structure on the branches of the Górdilax. Finally, my long stick reached one of the fruits, I pushed with all my strength and managed to get the edge of my knife to cut one of them, it fell into the backpack as I had calculated. I lowered the stick and reached my backpack; there it was, the famous Górdilax fruit. It looked appetizing with its reddish-yellowish colors. I felt a weight on the back of my neck and looked up, the girl was looking at me dumbfounded, suddenly she snorted and continued with her arduous effort. I guessed that something had not pleased her. *Well, that's her problem, not mine.* Suddenly, something wasn't right, a nauseating and suffocating smell flooded my nose; the earth shook under my feet, again and again, my heart began to pound my chest hard, all this only meant one thing... I grabbed all my things and hurried to put them in my backpack, I was about to run away, but I couldn't leave the girl alone. I threw a small rock towards the girl, but it wasn't enough; after throwing more than 5 rocks, one of them managed to hit her. The girl turned to me and gave me a look that could have cut me in two. Why the hell was I worried about her? But she soon noticed how frantically I was waving my arms, my anxious look, and my anxiety, which went to her bones when she read from my lips a word she didn't expect: Troll. She was in a predicament, she was too high to jump from the tree, in her position she was an easy prey; the footsteps felt closer and closer. I hastily reassembled my pole and extended it towards her. Fortunately, she understood the plan and as soon as she reached her height, she used it to descend quickly. As soon as she touched the ground, we both ran for cover. After hiding under a large tree root, we waited for the giant to move away. Time passed, but its stinking odor still swarmed. Our breathing was still labored, not everyone can stand within a few feet of a Troll and live to tell the tale. That was close, however, there was something still ringing in my head: what was a girl doing performing the tribe's manhood ritual. Without realizing it, our gazes met for a moment. Under her reddish hair, beautiful green eyes were hidden; beads of sweat trickled down from her forehead stumbling over the scars on her cheeks that gave her a hint of ruggedness. I couldn't stop my words from jumping out of my mouth: "What the hell were you doing looking for a Górdilax fruit?" She pursed her lips indignantly and looked away, it seemed to me for an instant that she had blushed. Silence fell again. I opened my backpack and took out a biscuit and offered it to her in peace. She tasted her lips and hesitated for a moment. I extended my eyebrows and rolled my eyes, placed the bread near her, and reached for another for myself. After a few bites, her voice broke the silence. "I hate that damn tradition," she waited a moment to see my reaction. I continued to chew my bread and nodded slightly as I watched the shadows spread around us. She paused again, as she forced herself to swallow her chew. "My older sister had to share her entire life with a man she had never seen or loved. She was forced to leave our home. But such is the law of the tribe and she had to follow the damned ways." "She was still very young when her future mate, a coarse man, much older than she, surprised her by pointing at her triumphantly with a disgusting smile." Her eyes bore into mine for a few moments. Then she looked down and whispered. "She was still carrying Gwendolin in her arms." I furrowed my brow She shook her head and explained "Our favorite doll. It hurt her so much to have to say goodbye to her, she gave her to me as a gift when she got engaged. Our grandmother had given it to her." "Our mother could only smile at the stares of the others so as not to humiliate our father, who was overflowing with joy." "That's what we were created for, wasn't it?" she asked me, but without waiting for an answer, she answered herself. "To serve the men of our tribe, isn't that right?" She swept from the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand the small tears that peeked out. I didn't know what to say but I was sure I understood what she was explaining. "I still have it, you know," she said softly and her face softened. She took a long breath and stood up, shook out her clothes, and pulled out her knives. Her eyes narrowed showing the same determination she had as she climbed the Górdilax. "I will never let a man choose my future," she blurted out before leaving. Unexpectedly she felt my hand on her arm. Indignantly she turned to see me; surprised, her eyes widened as she saw what I was offering her. At first, she looked at me suspiciously but then raised her eyebrows as she heard me say. "One fruit will not decide my fate." I shook out my clothes and grabbed my backpack. "It's already getting dark it would be better if we took the long way to avoid the cottage where the troll lives," I suggested. The girl was deep in thought looking at the Górdilax fruit in her hands. I was about to begin my return journey when the girl stopped me. "I cannot accept it, I must prove to both myself and others that I have what it takes to be a chosen one," she expressed without hesitation. "I understand," I replied. "Keep it," I told her before walking away. I was sure I had left the Troll far behind. Unfortunately, the walk back to the village was just as lonely as at the beginning. My mother and grandfather were happy to see me return alive but saddened to see that I was bringing back empty-handed. "Relax son, I'm sure you'll make it next year," my grandfather replied. I decided to keep what happened to myself. I only mentioned the presence of the Troll. My mother clutched her chest in anguish and then held me tightly in her arms, after thanking heaven for coming back alive. That night a big party was held where the lucky ones, those who managed to get a fruit from the Górdilax, could choose their future mates. As was the custom, the first to arrive would be the first to choose their future mates. Many of the villagers who came to the party looked at me with disappointment that I had not brought any fruit with me. I decided to roll my eyes at their attitude. I really cared little about what people I knew little or didn't know me at all. But no one expected what would happen at the end. The last participant wore a hood along with a cloak that hid his face and most of his body. Intrigued, everyone expected to find out who the stranger was, however, his footwear gave me a hint. When it was his turn, everyone gasped as she uncovered her face and lifted the Górdilax fruit between her hands. "The law says that whoever has a Górdilax fruit will have the opportunity to choose their mate," the girl shouted before everyone. Most of the villagers protested at the girl's words claiming that only men could perform the Górdilax ritual, suddenly the atmosphere of joy and festivity that reigned at first was filled with tension. Thankfully, the great old mystic elder calmed the mood of the villagers. "Calm down please," the old man announced. The uproar turned to murmurs and soon silence reigned in anticipation of the wise words of the great mystic. "Actually there is, nowhere in our law, anything that says that only men are the only ones who can take the Górdilax test. Formerly, both women and men were allowed to do it. However, the ancient council came to the conclusion that our species would become extinct that way, so the test would only be taken by men, to prove that they were strong enough to support a family." No one made any comment at the mystic's words. The older and more elderly were nodding their heads in agreement. "Tell me, my dear," the elder said turning toward the girl. "Do you have someone in mind as a mate?" The girl was speechless. She had been so busy proving her worth and facing both the dangers of the forest and the opinion of everyone in the village that she had forgotten that she should have someone in mind as a mate. The old man looked at her tenderly and understood her dilemma "Since you are the first woman to pass the test you will have all the time you need to choose your mate," the old man declared to everyone. "Let the celebration continue!" the mystic elder announced. The people continued to drink mead and have fun. Finally, the girl stopped being the center of everyone's attention and took the moment to approach the friend she had met in the forest. *What the hell! Is she planning to choose me? My heart started pounding in my chest with every step she took towards me. It was obvious she had chosen me, she was holding the Górdilax fruit in her hands and pointing at me. *I'm not ready to start a family yet!* My head was spinning between possible future scenarios and the consequences of losing my freedom to do whatever I wanted. "Hey!" she shouted when she saw that I wasn't coming out of my thoughts. "I think this belongs to you," my eyes widened as I saw her pull a second Górdilax fruit out of her backpack and extend it towards me. *See you net time, space cowboy* Imagen de Peter H en Pixabay https://pixabay.com/es/users/tama66-1032521/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=4498489 https://pixabay.com/es/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=4498489

Unexpected Encounter. Short story There we both were, in a tiny, dirty bathroom. Even though it was a cold moonlit night, large beads of sweat were running down my temples. The beam of light from my gun painted a small green dot on her head that kept shaking and my index finger hesitated on the trigger. She, crouched behind the toilet, raised her skinny arms, making her look even more vulnerable than she appeared. Her matted hair barely let her childish face show, yet they didn't hide her dirty cheeks soaked with big tears and the gleam of anguish in her big eyes that didn't lose sight of my every move. In my mind, the human part of me kept wondering *How the hell was I supposed to end her life? You may think I'm an assassin, wearing military assault gear, armed to the teeth, I may look like one but I'm really not, well not in the practical sense of the word. Equipped with firearms with expansive and corrosive bullets, so destructive they could dissolve a block wall; a riot shield, explosive titanium stakes, and short-range grenades; anyone would think I was a soldier about to leave for war. It was inevitable to end up like this. On my shoulders weighs a long lineage of vampire slayers, so long that it dates back more than 400 years of famous bloodsucker fighter characters. My grandfather, father, brothers, and even my sister were already part of the great legendary caste of vampire hunters. An underground faction that fought in the shadows against the horde of vampires that threatened the society we lived in. Unlike all of them, I have never been in favor of killing a living creature, it's not in my being, and to top it all off, I don't even eat meat. I'm sure you're wondering: What am I worried about? Vampires are not living creatures, they are bloodthirsty and merciless creatures, whose only goal is to satiate their appetite with the blood of their victims. Or so I thought. Despite having trained for 3 years in the art of killing vampires at the illustrious vampire-slaying academy and knowing all the humanly possible ways to exterminate these monsters, my legs wavered with every step I took. At first, I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to exterminate a terrifying creature, full of menacing fangs, eager to sink into my throat, and who definitely wouldn't hesitate to tear me to pieces the first chance they got. But this, surprisingly, is not what I expected. My visor, insistently, kept telling me that a neophyte in front of me was possibly less than 6 months old. That made her an even more dangerous creature. Their blood lust compels them to throw themselves against their prey without mercy, their superhuman strength could tear a man in half if they so desired. My mind is still bent on reciting the theoretical knowledge learned at the academy. I don't know how much time had passed standing in front of her. I can't think that this little girl was a murderous monster. But if she was - I wondered - why was she crying? was she capable of having feelings? and if so, did she have a conscience? "Get it over with once and for all," a cracked voice came from what I understood so far to be a shadowy, sinister creature. Intrigued, I turned off the alarm on my visor and removed it from my face. I was able to observe more closely that her features were even more subtle than I had thought. "I never chose to be what I am," the girl added grimly. "To all of you we are scum and to the ancients, we only serve their purposes of gaining ground," she spat contemptuously, scrunching her moistened cheeks. Was it possible that everything we learned at the academy was wrong? She was a neophyte and yet she retained her personality and apparently her conscience, otherwise, by now, I would have been her dinner. Was she a special and unique case? Or were they all actually retaining part of their personality from their previous life? Perhaps over time, they forgot their old lives and immortality erased their memories. My mind kept wondering about their unusual behavior. I motioned with my hands to carefully stow my weapon and sat down on the ground, two meters away from her. "Do you want me to tell you a secret?", I asked, forgetting for a moment all my training. She looked at me suspiciously. "Neither did I wish to hunt v...", I paused and rolled my eyes, for some reason I didn't want to offend the girl, "creatures like you", I shrugged and continued to explain to her, "I'm just a guy who all I' ve ever wanted to be in my life is to be a famous YouTube personality, or what many people know as a Youtuber." "A Youtuber!", I chuckled at the nonsense I had just said. "Can you imagine?", I insisted, not knowing if she had any idea what I was talking about. "Unfortunately, as you may know, there are many things about my extracurricular activities," I told her pointing to my attire, "my surroundings and my family that I can't make public. For obvious reasons, which at the time, I had no idea." "Like you, I also had no choice," I explained, giving her to understand that I knew her situation perfectly well or so I thought. She sat unconcerned for the moment, pushed her hair back with both hands, and blurted out angrily "Do you think you understand how I feel?" "You can choose to be who you want to be at any time," she expressed annoyed. She turned her eyes back on me "I cannot change who I am, it is inevitable to give in to the killer instincts intrinsic to the new being that I am, to the hunger that is never satiated, to the cravings that claw at my insides and curse my existence." She closed her eyes, as she threw her head back and clenched her fists. "I'm sorry," I said sincerely. "I admit it was foolish to compare your life to mine.....I had never considered putting myself in the shoes of a..." I paused and she completed the sentence without opening her eyes "vampire?". "Yes," I nodded, "I always thought they were inhuman monsters." "It's what they teach us at the academy, you know?" I defended myself. She pursed her lips and nodded. "Do you remember how you turned?" She shook her head slightly. In the dim light that managed to filter through the bathroom window, her complexion looked gaunt, anorexic, weak. Then I decided to do something no slayer would ever do in their entire life. The rules no longer applied anyway. We usually carry in our backpacks, in addition to ammunition and food, a medical kit to temporarily heal wounds. In it, there is a bag of plasma and a bag of type O blood, a universal blood type for extreme cases. I threw it to her and she quickly took it. She swallowed saliva and stared at the red contents that rippled lazily in her hands. Obviously, she was not a normal vampire, anyone else would have torn the bag apart in seconds, yet she still didn't open it, fighting her thirst. "Drink it," I suggested, "I assure you, you will not have harmed any human being by doing so," I smiled heartily at her. For an instant, I had forgotten my entire team and where I was at that moment. My communicator came to life and we both heard. "Rookie, the upper floors have been swept, meet us at the extraction point." The girl flinched at my superior's words but was reassured to see that I simply turned off my communicator and ignored the orders. *Terrible mistake* "You'd better drink it, in your state you're not strong enough to escape," I insisted again. The girl hesitated for a moment, but after my warning and the possibility that my companions might appear at any moment, she decided to sink her teeth into the bag. The thick liquid disappeared in seconds. Her body shivered at the cold temperature of the blood. An expression of relief relaxed her furrowed brow. Color returned to her cheeks and a tender smile painted her lips. Suddenly her expression changed, her eyes turned redder, and menacingly looked at me. A shiver ran down my spine. For a moment I thought I had made a big mistake. My hands wanted to reach for my gun, but I knew I wouldn't be fast enough to grab it and open fire. It would probably all be over in a couple of seconds. I stood petrified waiting for the worst, but nothing happened. "My suspicions, finally, have been confirmed. I see you are different," stated an unfamiliar voice coming from outside. Despite sounding non-threatening, my new friend looked reluctant and her terrified expression did not change. My visor emitted a new alert that painted the small screen red. A class 1 vampire had appeared. It wasn't common for them to roam these parts, what the hell was it doing here? I was definitely completely sure I wasn't up to the task of defeating a class 1, however, I grabbed both my weapons and exited the small bathroom opening fire in all directions. For some reason, I felt the impetus to protect this unusual girl. Bursts of light from the detonations bathed the room. My 34 bullets slipped away in seconds emptying my guns and shattering everything around them. Amazingly not a single shot hit the target and suddenly I had a class 1 specimen in front of me. Bits of debris and clouds of dust covered my vision; the moonbeams filtering into the room made the ivory color of his skin glow in front of my eyes. His grayish face was neither hideous nor frightening, contrary to what I had learned in class, he was good-looking with a European air and expressed no resentment towards me; his eyes, unlike those of a neophyte, were light brown. Suddenly, he grabbed me by the neck and threw me over his shoulders, as if my body were an insignificant piece of paper, I thought he would break my neck when I fell off guard, but fortunately, I landed on cold, marble-hard arms. To my surprise, the girl had cushioned my fall, preventing me from crashing to the floor. Immediately, she interposed herself between the intruder and me. Her sharp fangs threatened the stranger who watched us in wonder at the neophyte's defensive behavior. "You have nothing to worry about," the stranger explained towards her. "We are a group of immortals, who like you, do not feed on humans. We value all life." Even with all my training and weaponry, I felt like a diminutive being before the pair of titans in front of me. Suddenly, the girl didn't look as innocent as she had a moment ago. "We can help you if you come with me. But you must hurry in making your decision, their friends," he pointed with his eyes to where I stood, "have heard the detonations and will soon be here." We were both speechless at the offer the stranger had made. The girl looked at me asking what to do. I shrugged "It seems your best option is to go with him," I said. "He's a class 1 being. He probably would have taken them both of us out if he wanted to, his battle experiences are unbeatable," I explained. "I've never heard of anyone coming out on top in a confrontation with a Class 1," I added. "And yet, you threw yourself at me, to give her time to get away." We both looked at each other for a moment, perplexed at the last thing the stranger had uttered. On my part, as I suspected that he had somehow read my mind and discovered my plan. And she, since she didn't know that I was lashing out at him, even without having any chance of beating him. "Don't put yourself down," he said kindly, "I'm sure between the two of you, you would have found a way to beat me." He was definitely reading my mind and to top it off, he was patronizing both of us. "I like this guy," I said suddenly, chuckling, "I still think he's your best option," I reiterated with another shrug. She nodded reluctantly. However, I held her arm before they left. "My name is Gabriel. May I know yours?", I asked. "Cynthia", her name floated in the air, and in the blink of an eye, their figures disappeared from my sight. *See you next time, space cowboy*

@jadams2k18

I Farmed BUSD at Venus using Harvest Finance for 25.42% APY I'm just a user who has very little time getting acquainted with the crypto sphere. Even though I have more than 2 years of posting on blogs that work with blockchain technology and this is the first time I make an investment in **Harvest Finance**. Thanks to the support of a friend (who lent me the money), we decided to invest in this platform. I really don't have much idea how it works, however, it is the simplest and cheapest way, as it now allows to use of the BSC (**Binance Smart Chain**), a BEP-20 blockchain, very similar to Ethereum but much, much cheaper in fees. Normally if we were to do the same operation with the Ethereum blockchain, the profits and probably the investment would go to us in fees. So I think it's a way to give the average joe a chance to invest in DEFI platforms. Basically what I understand is that we are investing fixed-term money, what they call "staking" in the cryptocurrency world. Just like our grandparents did last century. Harvest Finance allows us to know our annual profit through the APY percentage. So, let's stop all this talk and see how I invested in the Harvest Finance platform. Obviously, we have to access the website https://harvest.finance/ But first of all, you need to have a **Metamask wallet** in your browser. If you don't know what it is, I invite you to read Mr. **@D3F1**'s post, so you can install your wallet. https://www.publish0x.com/defi-box/how-to-install-and-use-metamask-defi-tutorial-xdrdwyo As I said before, we must use the Binance blockchain to keep commissions to a minimum. For this, you must configure your Metamask wallet to work on the **BSC blockchain**. For that, again, we check the post of Mr. **@D3F1**, who clearly explains how to configure it. https://www.publish0x.com/defi-box/how-to-use-your-metamask-as-a-binance-chain-wallet-bsc-tutor-xgprzqq Once you have configured your Metamask wallet to work with **BSC**, go back to the Harvest Finance website, and as the image indicates, click on Binance Smart Chain farms Then it will ask you to indicate the chain and the wallet, then select as shown in the following image The Metamask wallet will appear asking for permission to change network and if you have more than two wallets, indicate which wallet you want to connect to. In my case, I only have one. If everything went well, you should see as shown in the following image, indicating that you are already seeing the **BSC** farms Alright, since I want to invest in **BUSD** and I don't have it in my wallet, I'm going to use the Pancake platform to exchange the **ETH** I have to **BUSD**. *The ETHs were lent to me by my friend.* So I enter the **Pancake platform** https://exchange.pancakeswap.finance/#/swap Where I also have to connect my Metamask wallet to be able to make the exchange. As you can see in the following image, the Pancake platform already recognizes the **ETH** I have in my Metamask wallet and tells me how many **BUSD** I am going to obtain If I am satisfied I click on the [**Aprove ETH**] button and my Metamask wallet will appear again requesting permission to perform the operation, indicating the cost of the transaction in BNB. It is important that you have some **BNB** money in your wallet. You can acquire BNB using the **Binance exchange**. As you can see in the following image, the fees are minimal. After confirming, you will see a small message from Metamask, indicating the transaction confirmations. The [**Swap**] button will be activated to perform the cryptocurrency exchange. Pancake will display a confirmation message, to ensure that you really want to do the operation. After clicking on the [**Confirm Swap**] button, Metamask will display a message for you to confirm the swap operation, indicating also the cost of the operation, as seen in the following image Pancake will warn that the swap has been performed. Metamask will also indicate the necessary confirmations for the operation. You can verify in your Metamask that you already have the tokens that have been requested. We go back to the Harvest Finance application, and select the **Venus** platform and within it the **BUSD** token. As we can see, the 91.37 automatically appears. Then, at this point to invest that amount, we click on the [**DEPOSIT**] button as shown in the following image Metamask will prompt us with a series of confirmations necessary to give Harvest Finance permission to make use of the **BUSD**. In the same way, while the Metamask requests are being confirmed, we can observe in the Harvest Finance platform, the messages of the result of the operations on the right side. Finally, after confirming all the previous windows, we can observe that our BUSDs are already staked in the Harvest Finance platform. It seems a bit complicated, but really, if you follow all the steps, it becomes simple to make the investment of any token. By the way, since it took me a while to create the post, you can see that now the [**CLAIM REWARDS**] button has been activated since I have earned **bFARM** tokens. Isn't that great? The **bFARM** tokens can be changed to FARM, I don't know how yet but they definitely represent investment gain. Thanks for visiting my post
