𝟬𝟭 | DO YOU HAVE THINGS YOU WANTED TO SAY BUT NEVER DID? I chanced upon a thread about #ThingsYouWantedToSayButNeverDid. One of the statements that caught my attention was this, "I built my walls up so high and now I am trapped in it." The truth is we have plenty of reasons why we often feel the urge to fabricate a big wall between us and the rest of the world. It might be a weird thought if you haven't been inside the same shoes. Anyway, I will probably talk about myself and the matter at hand, sometime soon. For now, I would say it's a harsh reality. I somehow felt a pang inside. I had to think for several minutes and contemplate what usually prompts such circumstances. I took this photo a few years ago when I embarked on an educational tour to explore the different historical places in one of the megacities somewhere in the Philippines. Too random as I was just passing by. If I am not mistaken, the place is like a baywalk and there's a barbeque area on the opposite side of it. You could indulge yourself with chicken barbeque, fresh air, the sound of the waves, and a solitary walk. The ambiance is like a concluding remark. I am torn between melancholy and nostalgia...or is it just me? #Photography

The message was all about her asking permission if she could give me a book full of poems 'cause she chanced upon a literary work that reminds her of me. I was taken aback! Bacause I am normally secretive and I value so much of my privacy. Plus, my shared narratives and actions are typically flavored with constraints. And oh, Princess!? I would have found it amusing had she labelled me a black sheep outside a kingdom - alone in an enchanting forest. I know you need not spend a decade with someone just to build a rapport but how could she look up to me like this... When in reality, I am usually the forgotten one. #RandomThoughts

I have been silently battling an uncommon habit/practice in the past years of my life. I know this isn't really noticeable as I have personal ways to conceal its toxic side effect (as far as I know). But everytime I try to look at it, the heaven knows how I abhor it to the moon and back! (This is me, trying to not make a dramatic narrative.) And you know what is funny and sad? 'Cause it has been 10 years now, and I only had the time to probe it's existence about 3-4 years ago. Well, how would you react to an uncommon habit that is common to 1 percent of the world's population? What would you say to those 10-15 sunken people in the comment section of a patient's video, who is trying to tell the world that they exist? Anyway, I'm here! Have to engage myself with some behavioural modification strategies. I can do this! 'Cause I know ten years is nothing compared to the bright future waiting for me. Flex Your Multitasking Skills! Growing up, I have always thought that I am a low-key embodiment of multitasking. This is not just because I habitually juggle chores at once. This is me telling the universe that people could look at me like I am the most passionately engaged person during a discussion, but truth is, my mind wanders a lot. You would find me nodding and responding to every detail you try to bring forth, come up with replies that are on point, at least in accordance with my level of understanding. Like hitting two birds with one stone; I am the stone hitting two tasks: **the physical reality and my personal reveries.** But as a conscious being, I am typically bewitched by the magnificent episodes in my mind. I recognize the power of **self-awareness** but even though I am cognizant of such occurrence, I know I have to work it out. Why? Because along with this, there lies stumbling blocks. I prefer to not engage myself too much of this specific aspect so allow me to recalibrate myself in 3…2…1. Let us discuss about multitasking instead! When I was younger, I read an article that reasons out why the general public must not call **an act of performing tasks simultaneously** as ‘multitasking’ but rather ‘task switching’. I prefer the former as it is generally acknowledged in my locality. But here is one informative composition that may serve as your guidance: The True Cost of Multi-Tasking (Weinschenk, 2012; Psychology Today, 2021). Additionally, allow me to introduce you to the **American Psychological Association’s** overview of multitasking research. As stated, here are three types of multitasking: **‘Performing two tasks simultaneously’.** *I liken this to the notion of me listening to a zoom meeting while jotting down important notes.* **‘Switching from one task to another without completing the first task’.** *I think I usually switch tasks depending on the level of urgency. But as much as possible, I make sure to make a draft or a timetable first.* **‘Performing two or more tasks in rapid succession’.** *If I am not mistaken at all, I would relate this to some instances where I strive to finish a written task, listen to a news report, and peek at my record from time to time. Different subjects but I had to maneuver it because I have always thought that the hormones responsible of my circadian rhythm snatches my sense of focus at times when I only focus to one task. But this depends on my motivation.* **Still reading in this part? Arigato! My main concern in writing this is the following:** *When I was younger, I would juggle my studies while doing housework. Basically, the unspoken rule is you have to focus your mind where your body is. Early in the morning, I would run for household chores and do my class assignments because I have 8 to 9 subjects a day and expect that we will be having at least 3 to 4 quizzes and class presentations each day.* I could ace that! And I'm proud of myself. Why? Because now that I'm older, sometimes, **I could not even breathe while living.** I miss that phase of my life. Untold Stories #1: Young Mothers and Little Angels *“Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed.” -****Linda Wooten*** I have been personally working on a group case report in the past weeks. The subject matter are young mothers, aged 17-21 years old, in a certain village. I usually work in silence but such encounter stimulated my interest to finally break it – wishing the universe would lend an ear to these untold stories. Yes, I am a witness: of hearing the silent lamentation, seeing deep scars barely aided, and wanting to be freed from the shackles. Herein are true-to-life cases. Some basic changes were made with respect to the names, places, and other pertinent details for confidentiality purposes: **Case No. 1:** **Angelina** *Angelina is a 21-year-old mother of two who is currently separated with her spouse. She ran away from home and is now living with her relatives in a neighboring town. Angelina’s children, a 2-year-old adorable girl and a 4-year-old boy, are under the care of her spouse in the hut house where they used to live as a family before. It has been months since Angelina left and according to her, she has been exhausted of all the hardships in life – from raising her children and working hard to feed the family.* **Case No. 2:** **Madeline** *Madeline is an 18-year-old out of school youth who dropped out from school and decided to work as an employee of a fast-food restaurant in the city. Madeline’s unwillingness to pursue her studies started when her grandmother died due to heart attack last 2018. According to her, it was her grandparents who took care of them since childhood, when her mother who is a single parent, left to find work and support their necessities.* *After the death, Adeline got involved in a romantic relationship and became attached with her friends who encouraged her to find work in the city. After months of living an urban life, Madeline got pregnant but her boyfriend left her hanging. She went back to the province after giving birth to a baby boy. She dropped out from school after deciding to separate from her parents and live with her partner. She gave birth to her first child at the age of 18. There were times in the recent past when they decided to separate and move back to her parent’s house as her husband was unemployed and she could no longer handle the situation.* **Case No. 4: Rose** *Rose is an out-of-school youth from a neighboring town who decided to drop out from school and move to her partner’s house in the said village. She got pregnant at the age of 18 and is now hands-on in taking care of her son. Her partner, a young laborer, is usually idling with his friends, reason why he could not help Rose in taking care of their child. Both are still dependent to their parents. Rose’s main concern is the health of his child, who is prone to sickness, and their everyday necessities since she is unemployed and her partner is usually out of reach.* **Case No. 5: Danna** *Danna is a 2nd year college student in a State University. She gave birth to a baby boy last April 2021 that is why she dropped out from school to continue her work back when she was still a working student. Danna is not in good terms with her mother as her parents got separated due to an alleged third party. She is currently living in the bakeshop where she is working while taking care of her son. Her partner is also a staff in the shop; they take turns in taking care of the child. Danna needs help as she just gave birth this April but she needs to work in order to sustain their needs and help afford the education of her two younger siblings.* **Case No. 6: Juana** *Juana, a senior high graduate, was 18 years old when she got pregnant and decided to live with her partner under the same roof. They are now living with her grandmother and receives help from his sister who is working in the city. Juana came from a broken family; her mother left them when she was 5 years old and her father had another family when she was 7. From then on, they were only dependent to her grandma that is why her sister had to work in the city to support her studies. Now, Juana and her partner usually argue over financial difficulties since her partner’s income is not enough to support the needs of their child.* **Case No. 7: Dianne** *Dianne is a 17-year-old girl who has health issues. She decided to quit from school after she got pregnant with her boyfriend. She gave birth just this year to a baby girl. Dianne and her partner is currently living with her family in the same village. The only one who helps her with her necessities is her mother who started to work as an overseas worker – a domestic helper last year. The income of his partner is not enough to support the needs of their child as he also divides his money in order to give a little amount to his parents in the town proper. As of now, Dianne needs help in financing their necessities. She is also not knowledgeable in managing her role as a mother and a wife at the age of 18.* In line with the said report, I formulated action plans and framed a plan implementation. I consider the possibility of working on their individual cases and plan to save the narratives. In time, it would be an honor to actualize the plans because I believe these young mothers and little angels are worth saving. Hindi lamang iyan, sapagkat ang pinaka naging argumento nang implementasyon ng K-12 program sa Pilipinas ay sa kadahilanang isa ang Pilipinas sa tatlong bansa sa buong mundo at nag-iisang bansa sa Asya na may "**10-year pre-university education**" lamang. **Nakakadismayang isipin, hindi ba?** Sapagkat kung kalidad ng edukasyon pala ang nais, bakit ang pagdaragdag ng taon sa pag-aaral ang ginawang solusyon kung pwede namang pangkalahatang repormasyon? Sa tingin ko, ang ugat ng problema sa de-kalidad na edukasyong ito ay hindi ang nasabing maliit na panahong iginugugol ng mga mag-aaral sa pag-aaral kundi ang sistema ng pagtuturo at paraan ng pagkatuto na umiiral at pinapairal sa mga institusyon. Ano ang saysay ng kagalingan sa pagsusulat at pagbibilang kung hindi naman na a-apply sa tamang paraan? Hindi tayo uunlad sa "**reading**" lamang, kailangang "**reading at comprehension.**” Hindi yung maraming alam wala namang naiintindihan. Kaya hindi nakapagtataka kung bakit puro tayo kuda at walang ginagawa, sapagkat nasanay tayong makinig nang hindi pinapakinggan at pagsalitaan nang hindi hinahayaang magsalita. Sunod-sunuran lamang, walang kasiguraduhang sasabay sa pandaigdigang agos upang makibagay at makikipag kompetensya sa iba. Ang nakapanghihinayang pa rito ay ang pangarap na "**global competitiveness of the Filipinos**" gayong kahit sa "**local arena**" wala tayong naibubuga. Para tayong sumabak sa gyera na hindi dala ang tamang sandata. Para saan nga ba ang "**global competitiveness**", para punan ang "**global demand**" ng "**semi- skilled at cheap labor?**" Maraming Pilipino ang biniyayaan ng magandang kaisipan. Sa totoo lang, kakikitaan ng kakaibang talento ang mga Pilipino sa ibat-ibang dako man ng mundo. Ngunit di maipagkakailang tunay nga na mababa pa rin ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa Pilipinas. Dinagdagan pa ng dalawang taon sa Senior High kung saan ang mga "**graduates**" ay bibigyan ng **Certificate of Competencies** na siyang ibinibigay rin sa mga **TESDA graduates** na kung tutuusin nakababahala sapagkat hihikayatin lamang nito ang mga estudyante na maghanap ng "**employment**" kaysa kumuha ng "**tertiary education**", na hindi pa talamak na ideya sapagkat mas pinipili nga naman ng ilang mga kompanya ang "**college degree holder**" kaysa **Senior High graduate.** Ayon kay **Philippine Business for Education Executive Director Lovelaine Basillote** (GMA News Online, 2019), hindi lang ang **K-12 curriculum** ang may problema. https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/publicaffairs/bawalangpasaway/687987/kalidad-ng-edukasyon-sa-pilipinas-tatalakayin-sa-bawal-ang-pasaway/story/ Hindi talaga, sapagkat pati ang mentalidad natin nasasakop ng maling sistema. **Hindi ba natin napapansin?** Ang kasalukuyan ay parang salamin lamang ng nakaraan.
