Siam Taste pineapple fried rice

Today, I revisited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant.

This time I ordered pineapple fried rice from the Siam Taste stall, which cost RM17.50 per plate. This vibrant dish features fried rice stir-fried with a blend of traditional Thai seasonings, eggs, vegetables like carrots and onions, and chunks of sweet pineapple that give it a fruity, slightly tangy edge. It’s served with Cashew nuts, fried egg on top, refreshing side of shredded lettuce, cabbage, carrots, and cucumber slices, all beautifully plated on a banana leaf for added aroma and visual appeal. The flavour is well balanced, it is savory, slightly sweet, and aromatic. The rice is dry-fried to prevent sogginess, which allows the spices and pineapple to shine without overpowering each other. Pineapple Fried Rice, or Khao Pad Sapparot (ข้าวผัดสับปะรด) in Thai, originates from central Thailand, where tropical fruits are abundant. It likely developed as a way to use leftover rice and incorporate local produce. Over time, it became a beloved street food and tourist favourite, often served in a hollowed-out pineapple for visual flair. This dish showcases Thai culinary principles: combining multiple flavour dimensions—sweet (pineapple), salty (soy/fish sauce), savoury (egg and rice), and nutty (cashews). It’s versatile, often made vegetarian or with seafood, chicken, or pork depending on the region and stall.
