Colorful Shumai
Today for dinner, I decided to try out this streetside stall that has open here for some time. This stall sells Shumai and Pau. Here are all the types of Shumai and Pau they sell.
Here is their menu that show what flavor those shumai and pau are.
For today, I will only be trying out the Shumai. They are selling 8 shumai for RM10. I decided to pick 2 of each of the following flavor Taro Shumai( purple) black pepper Shumai (black) Golden Shumai (yellow with orange on top) Crabstick Shumai (Pink) For those who don't know what Shumai is, it is a type of traditional Chinese dumpling, originating from Hohhot. In Cantonese cuisine, it is usually served as a dim sum snack. Normally the filling consists primarily of ground pork, small whole or chopped shrimp, Chinese black mushroom, green onion, and ginger with seasonings of Chinese rice wine, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chicken stock. Bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and pepper can also be added. The outer covering is made of a thin sheet of lye water dough, which is either yellow or white. The center is usually garnished with an orange dot, made of crab roe or diced carrot, although a green dot made with a pea may be used. For this stall, their shumai is very different from the usual because they make many different flavors. Here are how the shumai I brought look like.
