The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 30, Post #4
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 30:19-24
We have been hearing about the jealousy and competition of the sisters for weeks now. They both married Jacob and there is much fighting and envy regarding who has had more kids and who gets to sleep with Jacob. But now, we have the birth of the eleventh son.
With Joseph's birth, we see the beginning of an amazing story
that will mimic what is in store for us now in the twenty first *source* https://tse4.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.GoHQa7DrvfWfxcok1kVIEwHaFj
century and beyond. Joseph's name means ***to add*** or ***do again***. With this child, God is saying that he will ***do this again***.
What do I mean by that?
As we will see in the coming weeks, the story of Joseph shows a man who ins young but righteous, loved by his father. He knows a bit too much about the future and is ridiculed and hated for that (his dreams), suffers and loses his life for it (sold into slavery), is transformed into the most powerful being on earth with only one person more powerful than him, (he runs Egypt), and ends up being the salvation of all nations (saving them from starvation). He is an archetype of Yeshua, who is doing all of those things but on a universal scale.
He will not be under pharaoh as Joseph was, but under YHVH and salvation he offers is eternal!
Today's reading
*English*
And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. Then Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons." So she called his name Zebulun. Afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.
Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. She conceived and bore a son and said, "God has taken away my reproach." And she called his name Joseph,' saying, "May YHVH add to me another son!"

Joseph - Child of Blessing
It is not as if everything this child touched turned to gold, but he was blessed none the less.
source https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2019/06/53d8295b9a708400-600x338.gif
If memory serves, this child was blessed going out and coming in, as they say. Every where he went and every place he lived produced abundance. One of the meanings of the name 'Yoseph' is ***increaser***.
I have to apologize for posting a picture of this scene from a movie about witchcraft with gold spawning more gold. It certainly was not a blessing in the movie. But as we go through the life of Joseph, you will see that things did increase all around him no matter where he went.
Let's take a look at his naming just after birth.
Pardon my crude diagram of the sounds and letters but you see, the two words are pronounced identically. The name contains a vav with a dot over it. That makes the letter-vowel combination into the vowel for the O sound (pronounced 'owe'). On the left, we have the large comma (yud) with a dot above it (the vowel for O) - in this case, the letter-vowel combination is also pronounced y-owe, but it represents a mail person doing the action - to add. (yosef). Take the word in between yosef and yosef, as written it means 'to say' (la-more). If a man were saying something, you would write ***yo-mer*** and it would have a yud with a dot over it at the beginning. That is the best I can do for why the two versions of ***yosef*** are spelled differently.
Back to the story
She was saying "may he add another son to me." Little did Rachel know that the name she chose would be a picture of Joseph's life and experiences in countless ways!
I will be talking about how the life of Joseph parallels that of Yeshua and one of those ways is his father's immense love for him. Even though he was not the first born, he was the one his father had waited for. He was the child of his first love, Rachel, and his favorite. He would one day save Israel from famine as well as all the nations.
That is all for this one. It is after all just a nugget.

The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 30, Post #3
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 30:14-18
We have a story that compares to life today. Sisters, mostly the ones in high school or college, will fight over clothes, over space in a bedroom, over boys they like and even the last mandrake. Then the nit picking starts.
**Rachel:** Your son brought you mandrakes, can I have some?
**Leah:** Well you took my husband and now you want my son's mandrakes too?
**Rachel:** Okay, I will trade your mandrakes for a night with our husband.
**Leah:** Sounds good.
**Rachel:** Deal!
Image *source* https://preview.redd.it/pjaq2q9ync711.jpg?auto=webp&s=3772144788bb415121bf0d48c4cee2bf81e71945
So Rachel keeps her end of the sex bargain by telling Jacob that she will be taking the night off. He will have to sleep with the unwanted sister to pay for those mandrakes. Jacob should understand because he was the less-wanted son who did not care for hunting but made a deal, trading food for a birthright. Then he later took his wages in the form of his father's blessing.
Then Leah gets pregnant again and the child is reckoned to be little more than a trade for some mandrakes. Leah then names him something that he can never live down. I imagine him asking one day, "Mom why did you name me 'wages'?"
"God has given me my wages...his name Issachar"
This boy's name was "**My Paycheck**"
I pity Leah that her father did not value her enough to find a man that truly loves her. It is more like him banishing her to live a life of scorn, unwanted in her own house and by her own husband.
Then there is the bickering. "But, I married him first. He's more my husband than yours!" and on and on.
And the names of these boys, having been born under competitive conditions, cause them to grow up with much jealousy and deal making. These are the same brothers that will one day sell their younger brother into slavery.
Back to the mandrakes
*Who feeds their family mandrakes for dinner?* Not many that I can think of, but there is another reason that Leah wanted them. They are an aphrodisiac and Leah probably wanted to do the date-rape trick and slip it into her husband's salad... (even though that would not be rape). Rachel caught her meaning the moment her sister expressed a ***desire*** to have some.
Today's reading
*English*
In the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, "Please give me some of your son's mandrakes." But she said to her, "Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son's mandrakes also?" Rachel said, "Then he may lie with you tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes." When Jacob came from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, "You must come in to me, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." So he lay with her that night. And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 Leah said, "God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband." So she called his name Issachar.

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
**Genesis 30:7-13**
*source* https://ar.pinterest.com/pin/242631498649521794/
We are not looking at a war called birth, counter birth! The sisters, who are both married to Jacob, are envious of each other's children and are using their servants to have more and more children with Jacob. At the rate they are producing kids, it is a wonder we do not have the 36 tribes of Israel.
Leah stopped getting pregnant at first, so Rachel used her servant to give Jacob a son called Dan and now the same servant has another child and Rachel gets to name it. She says, "I have wrestled with my sister and prevailed." (Naphtel'ti with my sister)
So **Naphtali** means *I have wrestled* - see for yourself below.
"When Leah saw..." is the next line and you can bet she is going to find a way to put someone in bed with Jacob! The results are two more boys as follows.
Bah-gad (*with good fortune*) - and his name was **Gad**
Bah-ash'ree (*with my happiness*) - and his name was **Happiness**
This all gives us a very good idea of how the culture works, naming children due to circumstances during which the child was born.
Today's reading
*English*
Rachel's servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. Then Rachel said, "With mighty wrestlings, I have wrestled with my sister and have prevailed." So she called his name Naphtali. '
When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took her servant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. Then Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son. And Leah said, "Good fortune has come!" so she called his name Gad. Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. And Leah said, "Happy am I! For women have called me happy." So she called his name Asher.

Hebrew Nuggets #4
I was reading today as is my habit.
I ran across four words that usually set people off. You need not be religious, or even believe in God in order to be set off by these words. *Mention God and any of these words in the same sentence* and people of all faiths suddenly know better.
What I hear when that happens is, "**The ladder works perfectly without that extra metal around the back of you**!"
Right they are! But I would rather have it there in case one rung is oily or something maybe falls off the platform above.
Like a stranger you meet on your way to Queens, NY. He's telling you not to turn right at the next light. He warns that there is a gang war in that neighborhood. He just set a rule or a law because ***he knows something that you do not know***.
You are free to turn right. If you are injured or killed, that is not the stranger's fault or responsibility. The stranger is not experiencing anything positive or negative in **his** life when you make that turn. God will not die when you violate one of his warnings and he might not even punish you for it either.
When you remove the protection from a caged ladder or the railing from a balcony, you place yourself and others at risk. You should not be going to the other side of those boundaries. https://ascendfab.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/aluminum-caged-ladder-on-bolted-tank.jpg
Here are some of the boundaries, railings, curbs, medians, and skyscraper windows that are in place for your protection. I ran across them in Second Chronicles 19 today.
Left to right we have tow-rah, meets-vah, choo-keem, and meesh-pah-teem with their corresponding words in English. As parents place rules on their children and try to control them from running into the streets, so God has given us the loving instructions, and even an instruction manual for our bodies (the Tanakh/Bible) so that we do not ruin the very thing in which we live.
We stupidly toss the owner's manual out and then blame God when we get cancer, go blind or cannot walk. Conversely, Yeshua healed people with such diseases and said, "Go and sin no more or else something worse may happen to you."
All of Job's friends rightly knew that people who suffer as Job was doing have sin in their lives.
I know. **Sin is another one of those words** that sets people to ranting and raving, "God has no right to tell me what to do!" He is not trying to tell you what to do. He is trying to warn you of proper care for the product he made. That is **you**.
Comparison
The toaster manufacturer sends a manual with all toasters. You have the freedom to throw it away without reading it. Your choice. If you then decide to make toast while bathing, you may ruin the toaster. You are free to get another one and try it all again. That is right. It will not kill YOU, but it might ruin the toaster.
Now if you toss a live toaster into a plastic kiddie pool, the occupant will fry until you pull the plug.
You have now read my toaster bible which contains warnings of use near water. I am the stranger you found on the way to the bathtub. If tomorrow you find yourself shopping for a toaster or a coffin, I will be completelyfine way over here, having written that bible.
**Be fine with me. Follow my torah!**
He knows your life and death, injury or chronic skin disease. Follow YHVH's Torah too. These guys do.
*Why do* *these toasters* *usually live more than a hundred years?* https://religionnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Chabad-Lubavitch-Group-Photo-4.jpeg
Note: The Law has nothing to do with your salvation or your justification in today's context. Knowing Mashiach takes care of those things. Long life with all your fingers and toes requires reading the instruction manual and following it.
That is all for this one. It is after all just a nugget.

The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 30, Post #1
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 30:1-6
Marrying sisters is problematic no matter how you slice it. We see now that Rachel is extremely jealous of her sister who has borne four boys to Jacob so far. She is crying out to him to do something! She wants a child. Jacob cannot believe that the woman he loves is asking for the impossible. "Am I in the place of God?" he says.
*Picture* *source* https://www.bibleblender.com/wp-content/uploads/image_thumb-493-1.png
Women in today's world would not be thrilled if a man had dated their sister, even years ago.
But Jacob married two who were sisters. Women in today's society would not allow a man to cheat, let alone have a baby with the other woman, but Rachel is doing just that in order to claim the baby as her own. A man who gives his wife everything she asks for will soon find himself unable to attain what she asks. It is inevitable.
For insight on his fifth child Dan, see my last article on the topic of Daniel. https://hive.blog/hebrew/@hebrew/hebrew-nuggets-3
Today's reading
*English*
30 When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I shall die!" Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?" Then she said, "Here is my servant Bilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth on my behalf, that even I may have children through her." So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her. And Bil- hah conceived and bore Jacob a son. Then Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son." Therefore she called his name Dan.

Hebrew Nuggets #3
God is my judge.
I was reading today as is my habit.
pxhere.com
I had recently been in a dispute with someone who is very important to me and the debate ended when he said, "God is my judge." to which I had no reply. https://pxhere.com/en/photo/641052
Then strangely enough while preparing my article for Shabbat, I stumbled on the meaning of one of my favorite names. Daniel.
Here is where we learn the meaning of Dan, who is one of Jacob's sons. His mother gives birth and says, "God has judged me, therefore his name will be called Dan." *the reading is actually a bit longer than that. Read what I publish at sunset on Shabbat.*
Pronounced **dan-a-ni**
*Dan* is "Judge"
*Ani* refers to one's self.
Then the verb changes in order to define the tense (*past, present, future*)
Here is the word *Dan* alone from the same passage when Jacob's son was born.
The letter that sounds like "N" (the one on the left) looks a bit different because it is at the end of the word. Still, this is Dan. It means "judge", but let us take a look at Daniel.
*Dan* means "judge."
*Dani* means "my judge."
*El* is short for "Elohim" meaning "gods" or the title "God."
So **Dan-i-el** has to mean **God is my judge** or **my judge is God**
Thanks Daniel, for reminding me of your faith in the one true Judge of all.
That is all for this one. It is after all just a nugget.

The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 29, Post #7
Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 29:31-35
We are talking about the first four tribes of Israel as we finish the twenty-ninth chapter of the Tanakh today. These four are the children of Jacob and Leah. I said Israel because later, after wrestling with God, Jacob will be called Israel which means exactly that.
The reading for today shows the Creator empathizing with Leah, the wrong wife, the disappointment,
the one he had to take before he was able to have his true love.
He closed Rachel's womb and allowed only Leah to conceive. He did that before Leah asked for help. She now had a husband, but there was no love there. She should thank her father Laban for that one. We also have the birth of the first four boys and the meaning of their names.
**Reuben** - meaning obey, but also *to see and understand*. It is said to mean "son of vision" but she said it in the text, "**ra-ah b'ah-n** ee" (he has looked upon my affliction). You hear the name in what she said. So, we hear the name re-u-ben in her reason for naming him such *.
**Simeon** - meaning *heard and understood*. She speaks of God **having heard** that she is hated. Each child that comes brings hope that her husband will finally love her.
**Levi** - meaning *to attach* or a *joiner*. She says, "a*tah ha-pa-am yee- **la-veh** ee-shee" (now my husband will be joined to me). That said after three children. She is still waiting.
**Judah** - "y'hudah" - from "yada" - *to praise* and "hod" to be *worthy of praise*.
*When conjugated, the verbs change quite a bit depending on who is speaking and who is doing the action, like in English - am - is - are - was - were - been - and being - are all forms of one verb **to be**. It is a lot of memorization for new English learners and Hebrew verbs are a lot of work too.
Leah had no more kids for a bit after that and Jacob still waited for the woman he loved to have his child.
Today's reading
*English*
**Jacob's Children**
When YHVH saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but
Rachel was barren. And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, "Because YHVH has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me." She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "Because YHVH has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also." And she called his name Simeon. Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, "Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons." Therefore his name was called Levi. And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, "This time I will praise YHVH." Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.

He went up.
I was reading today as is my habit.
*pxhere.com* https://pxhere.com/en/photo/482533
It was Second Chronicles and I was reading when I heard the words Alla come out of my mouth. There was no Akbar after it. It was just part of a sentence in Hebrew which needed to be there in order for the story to be complete.
I am not here to offend anyone. I am not sure of anything related to the Muslim religion either, but I have heard that their prophet ***went up*** as it were. I suppose it would be safe to assume that Alla went up as his name says in the language I know.
In Middle Eastern cultures, Hebrew included, they would name their children for what was happening at the time that each was born. I do know that there is a lot of crossover between languages, either in spelling or the sound of a word. I run across similarities to other languages all the time.
That is all for this one. It is after all just a nugget.

Welcome to my Weekly Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 29:26-30
We saw that Jacob got a surprise new wife last week. Ooops! He woke up with Leah instead of Rachel. He was aghast, to say the least. Today we read Laban's excuse as to why he gave Jacob the older daughter instead of the one that he loved.
What is a man to do when he loves a woman? Will he start a fight with her father? Does he just walk away with the wrong woman and complain that he was defrauded? He has no choice but to comply with Laban's request in today's passage.
Note that marriages in those days consisted of sexual consummation and nothing more. See what it says below when Jacob finally gets the wife he ordered, "So Jacob **went in to Rachel also**, and he loved Rachel more than Leah..." The word *va-yavo* (so he went) is the same that would be used if someone **went** to Egypt.
Today's reading
*English*
Laban said, "It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years." Jacob did so, and completed her week. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife. (Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.) So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served Laban for another seven years.

Hebrew Nuggets #1
Breaking Tradition
My posts and videos have been running interrupted for a long time now. Many years it has been. There have been many times that I had the idea to write about things that the Creator has put on my heart, but I did not want to break the consistency of my weekly Hebrew portion as Shabbat is about to start. That is changing as of today.
Please do not be confused here on read.cash - I have been expanding due to religious persecution on what *was* Steemit, now Hive.
His Feminine Side
Most people, from an early age, have an innate knowledge of G-d as Shaul tells us in the B'rit Hadashah (renewed covenant)..
For his invisible *attributes*, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been *clearly* perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are *without* *excuse*.
Imagine someone suddenly faced with the reality that there is one G-d who is a spirit being. He cannot be seen, yet He is plainly evident in nature's design and instructions on how to avoid destruction were laid out in His Word.
They will plead, "But I didn't know!" and they are without excuse. They had seen it, and decided to believe something else.
The most recent belief that has grown in the popularity of feminism, is that G-d is a female. This is not *that* far off.
His Feminine Side
The Creator has made us in his image. More exactly, "Let us make man in **Our** own image."
I was reading today in Hebrew - Second Chronicles 15:1 - where the prophet was about to talk to Asa (the name means 'he does'} and the Hebrew phrase stuck with me. https://archive.org/details/ESVInterlinearOT/page/n1040/mode/1up?view=theater
ha-yetah ah-lav ruach elohim
She was - upon him - Spirit of - G-d
The people who knew in their hearts that G-d is female are correct, in that, the Ruach haKodesh (Spirit of holiness) **is indeed female**.
Clear perception was at work when these same feminists decided to speak of a female god. Every time in history when G-d spoke to men and women, it was a feminine being communicating with them. Whenever G-d appeared to mankind, it was the *ben haAdam* (son of man) that did the appearing.
The Creator himself has appeared too at times. There is a mountain in the land of Midian that is still scorched today as a result of one of *those* events.
