Living in Quarantine, Every Home a School
*Greetings dear readers and friends !!!*
*Today I would like to share with you some of my experiences in this situation of preventive social isolation. How has my experience been in this period of isolation... Let me think, a delicate way of putting it... A COMPLETE AND ADSOLUTE CRAZY. I have come to the conclusion that if God allows us to get out of this quarantine safely, I will need a quarantine vacation. But, I say, not because I can't get out, nor because of the social isolation as such, but because I can't. If I'm honest, that hasn't affected me, and neither has my family, my daughters spend their happy days playing all day, thank God zero trauma.*
*Now, I am the traumatized one, because my work is multiplied, I no longer only have to fulfill my duties as a university teacher. Although I am aware that both my husband and I must be thankful, because we can continue doing our work, without having to risk leaving our home, like some of our acquaintances and family. But now, too, I must be a teacher of a 6th grade girl and a 2nd grade preschooler. What has me on the verge of madness, I don't know what it is to be bored, or tired of doing nothing. From the moment I wake up, it's about getting everything ready so that the girls can complete their daily assignments.*
*The teachers... though I love and respect them very much, are, as it were, more inspired and creative. And don't get me wrong, I'm not against homework, on the contrary, I think it's necessary, given the situation, that they continue their activities, but from home, so they don't fall behind. Besides, I enjoy and appreciate the time I share with them, guiding them and helping them a little, especially the little one. But, in this situation, where we can't leave the house, to buy what we need, it's an ordeal. The truth is that I'm already afraid of checking out the virtual classroom when I get up to find out what the teachers have come up with for the day.*
*Our mornings are spent between housework, as well as preparing and finding all the necessary materials so that, above all, my youngest daughter can do her homework. Then, after lunch, (thank God, my husband helps me with that) it's time to pick up the house a bit and then do the homework. Finally, I struggle with the internet, to be able to send pictures of the daily activities. My eldest daughter, who is in the 6th grade, thank goodness, does her homework alone, but of course, there are always things we need to clarify for her and of course, once she is done, to check that everything is okay. But maybe once it's over, we should also fight the terrible signal from the internet, to send the videos and pictures of her activities.*
*In almost a year of quarantine, we have done everything, from masks with messages alluding to quarantine, to videos with recommendations for coping with this difficult situation, videos doing some physical activity, etc, etc, etc, etc and etc. So as you can see, we have not had the slightest chance to get bored. Although it has been crazy, we have had a great time as a family. Although I confess that, in the bottom of my heart, I am a little envious, but a good one, of some of my friends and family, who keep complaining that they are bored and can't find anything to do. I don't know, I would like to have a little more time to read a book, do my crafts and sewing. And of course, to write more, with great difficulty I manage to sit down to write.*
*I know that what I am telling you today is a trifle, a little joke, and it does not even compare with the seriousness of the real situation we are going through. It is a really necessary effort, for the common good, and don't misunderstand me, I am not complaining. Besides, I am privileged to be with my family, whom I love madly. I thank God, because all my relatives and acquaintances are healthy and I pray daily that neither they nor anyone else gets infected, let alone dies. But, I just wish that the teachers would lower the intensity a little and that they would somehow understand. Unlike them, in their regular classes, we parents don't have all the materials they work with. And we can't afford to go out and buy them, given the economic situation. Imagine, I worry about those mothers and fathers who do not have the simplest of things, blank sheets of paper, or do not have internet, to receive the homework and then send it to them. Now you understand why my quarantine story is so crazy.*
*Well, the most important thing is that my daughters, in spite of all the chores, are happy to be home with their daddies. In the little time we have, we have had the opportunity to watch anime series and children's movies that we had pending to see. We have dusted off several board games, which we haven't used for a long time, because of our daily comings and goings. My youngest daughter, at least, lives her days in a continuous game, when she is not playing the teacher and everyone else is her student. She is playing the chef, and she does not bring all the imaginary dishes she prepares. And when she gets bored, she sits down for a while, in the computer to play with a series of educational CDs, in English and Spanish very didactic, by the way, that teach her the letters, the numbers, figures, human body and other topics. My older girl, on the other hand, likes to do digital drawings, so, if she is not doing any activity, she spends her time, drawing on the computer, reading some of her books or checking something on the internet.*
*I really think that, up to now, our day-to-day quarantine, although in a way, for me it has been crazy, has not been a waste of time at all, nor has our life stopped. Moreover, I am convinced that, once this situation has been overcome, our family ties will be stronger and we will value our family time even more. Now, society in general, I believe and hope that it will become aware of how important it is to share with family members and loved ones in general. Otherwise, the crisis we are going through, the efforts of thousands and thousands of people and all the deaths will unfortunately have been in vain. It is time, to look back, to evaluate our arrogance, our self-centeredness in believing ourselves to be owners and center of the world. To be more humble, to value the gift of life, and at the same time understand its fragility. To become aware that we are not isolated, self-sufficient beings, and that even the smallest thing can affect our lives, changing them completely overnight.*

Beautiful Memories of a Reunion under the Warm Sun of Santa Fé
Greetings dear readers
Today I am wrapped in nostalgia, so I want to share with you some beautiful photos that I found in my collection of photographs.
`Village of Santa Fe - Sucre State - Venezuela`
The images correspond to a nice family trip that I made a few years ago with my parents and siblings, to a small town on the shores of the sea, a trip that today is impossible to repeat, first, because of the terrible economic situation that the Venezuelan people are currently experiencing. general, and secondly, perhaps the most important, is that like many Venezuelan families, my family was also affected by the terrible phenomenon of the migration of a relative, in my particular case, my younger brother emigrated to Chile in search of of a better future, for him and his family, so that at this moment it is impossible to find ourselves again, at least physically. However, I do not resign myself to losing hope, that things will improve soon and we can repeat that wonderful journey.
I remember it was a beautiful and sunny weekend of July 2012, my brothers, parents and I had planned with great enthusiasm that trip. My parents, brothers and I, by asares of destiny we are resident in different cities of the country, and although they are relatively close, little more than 3 and a half hours away from each other, until that moment for reasons of labor commitments, we had not We all could meet at our parents' house, and we were very anxious to meet again, besides, my brothers were eager to see their niece again, who for that moment reigned as the only niece and granddaughter; Today, thank God, my daughter not only has a little sister, but also two cousins.
The preparations prior to our meeting, basically consisted of finding a relatively equidistant from each, and perhaps most importantly, it was near the sea, because we already had a lot of time without going together to the beach, just as we did when we were children , despite, that we live relatively close to the sea; the place that we thought was ideal, the little town of Santa Fe, located in the sucre state, my home state, by the way.
`Partial view of the sector the Port - Santa Fé`
Santa Fé, is a small town founded by the year 1515 and its main economic activities are around tourism, fishing and agriculture, in fact one of its main tourist attractions are the coral reef formations and the almost daily presence of herds of dolphins on its shores, this town is divided into two sectors called Los Altos, located in the Mountains of Mochima National Park and El Puerto, which is located on the coast of the Gulf of Cariaco, this was the part we had the pleasure to visit.
`Another beautiful partial view of the sector the Port - Santa Fé`
Returning to the preparations prior to the trip ... my sister was responsible for the logistics regarding accommodation, this because on other occasions I had visited, and had reference and contacts to rent a place where we could share all fair. The best option turned out to be renting a house for the weekend, it was a very simple house and at the same time very comfortable on the shores of the beach.
`And another beautiful view of the sector the Port - Santa Fé`
When the date of the meeting arrived, my sister and brother-in-law who came from the city of Maturín, Monagas state, made a stop in Barcelona-Anzoátegui, city where I live, with the purpose of picking us up, since we had decided to make the remaining journey together. After about 30 minutes we arrived at the entrance of the town and decided to go down to an area, where an improvised fish market is located on the beach, there while we waited for our parents, brother and sister-in-law, who came from Carúpano city located north of Sucre state, we had the opportunity not only to buy the freshest fish imaginable, and that would form during the weekend the center of attention, in the midst of exquisite and long conversations while we tasted it, but In addition, we ate some delicious "empanadas".
`Image of the improvised fish market`
It did not take long, so that at last we all reconnected and between endless demonstrations of affection, hugs and kisses, my parents, brother and sister-in-law joined the tasting of the delicious "empanadas", which, by the way ... forget to mention that the "empanada", is one of the typical Venezuelan dishes, and it is a kind of delicious fast and street food, that you can find in every corner of our Venezuelan soil, of course, always nuanced by the culinary customs of the place where you taste them, but without losing Its essence. Well, once together, breakfast and our fresh fish, we set out to locate the place we had rented to stay, which was not very difficult, it was enough with a short and relaxing walk along the beach and found the house. From that moment, it was a continuous enjoy the pleasures of the sea, the sun and the incomparable family company.
`View from another angle of the sector the Port - Santa Fé`
In short it was an unforgettable weekend, where the exquisite pleasure of enjoying the sun, the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea, unsurpassed meals prepared in family and of course all seasoned by the long gatherings, extended even until late at night and mixed under the wonderful oriental sky, remembering our walks to the beach in childhood and adolescence, among other family anecdotes.
`My brother, enjoying the sea`
Well, for now I say goodbye to you and it only remains for me to pray to God from the depths of my heart, which, in his infinite mercy, allows me not only to myself, but also to countless Venezuelan families who go through the same situation, the to be able to meet again with our relatives who nowadays look for a better future far from the borders of our beautiful country.

My Orchids Philippines
Today, I come to share with you images of other orchids that I have in my small garden. In this case I present my orchids Spathoglottis Plicata, that is the name by which it is known scientifically. However, colloquially it is also known as Philippine orchid, terrestrial orchid or garden orchid. This type of orchids are native to the Asian continent, unlike other types of orchids, these have a peculiar behavior. It turns out that they are terrestrial orchids, that is to say, they can develop perfectly in a pot or in the ground directly, to this peculiarity it owes its names of terrestrial orchid or garden orchid.
They are very easy to cultivate, because they are not very demanding and do not require much care. It adapts very well to direct sunlight, however, it develops better in a place where during the day it receives between light shade to partial sun. As for watering, they should be watered daily, but... it is important to make sure that the soil is well drained. If they do not have a good drainage, with time their roots tend to rot, which causes them to die irremediably. I tell you from experience, I learned the hard way and I already went through that unfortunate experience.
I highly recommend you to have them in your garden, because if they are in the right conditions, they turn out to be very generous and bloom all year round. Its beautiful and delicate flowers are usually purple, pink, white, and there are even some yellow variations. Unfortunately, as you can see in the pictures in my small garden, I only have purple and pink.
Now I will tell you how the 5 plants of this type that I have in my garden came to be, first I will tell you that they were all given to me as a gift. Three of them, which are pink, were the first to arrive and were given to me by my daddy. He loves plants, he has a lot of them, so he transplanted me some of the plants he has in his garden. And one time when he came to visit from Carúpano, my hometown, he brought them to me as a gift.
The other two, purple, have a peculiar story, one day I went out to the garden and found on one of the railings overlooking the street, two tiny pots each with a tiny little plant. I had no idea what kind of plants they were, I even thought they were small palm trees. It turns out that coincidentally the leaves of this type of orchid resemble those of baby palms, they are elongated and pleated leaves. In fact, the shape of its leaves is what gives rise to its name, since Plicatus in Latin means pleated.
But... back to the story, I took the plants and placed them in the garden where everyone who passed by could see them, waiting for their owner to appear. A few weeks later, I heard a knock at the door and when I went out, I found a little old lady, whom I had never seen before in my life. And... surprise!.... It turns out that this lady was the one who had left the plants there as a gift. According to what she told me, she was passing by frequently, on her way to visit a friend, and the orchids in my garden caught her attention. As she realized that I didn't have any of that kind, she very kindly decided to bring me some from her house. Unfortunately, however, on the day she came by, no one was home and so as not to take them back, she put them through the gate.
Of course, I thanked her very much for her nice and curious gift, and from that day on, she often left us a new plant in the garden. On several occasions I also shared with her some plants that she did not have in her garden. The truth is that with that experience I understood that the "Fan Club" of my garden was not only formed by my family and the birds, butterflies, bees, cigarrones, etc., it seemed that my neighbors also enjoyed it very much

Sakura, Japanese Cherry Blossom. An interpretation from the recycling
Greetings dear readers, I hope you are doing great, this time I am back to tell you about an activity that I did some time ago with my oldest daughter. We really enjoyed it a lot, so I want to share it with you, because, with the quarantine our children are at home for a long time and sometimes they get bored, this is a good option to distract them.
At that time my daughter was in the 3rd grade of elementary school and they were in the middle of a project called "Taking Care of Our Environment". Within the framework of this project, the children, including my daughter, carried out different activities aimed at forming in them an awareness of respect for the environment.
One of the last assignments consisted of making a natural figure out of recycled material, and the children were free to build whatever they chose. In the case of my princess, she came up with the idea that she wanted to make a tree, so... although I was worried about the idea, since at first I did not imagine how we could do it, I asked her... And what tree do you want to make?... her answer also surprised me, since she said she wanted a Japanese Cherry tree in bloom. It was then when I started my search on the internet, although I have seen them many times in pictures, I wanted to be clear of how is its structure and its flowers in order to discuss with her the strategy that we followed for its construction.

The flowering cherry tree, is an elegant tree, and really beautiful, in addition, after reading a little about it, I learned that the Japanese call it Sakura, even, it is one of the most known symbols within the Japanese culture. It has a lot of meaning... for example, for this culture the flower of this tree is considered, among other things, as the image of the drops of blood that the samurai spill in battle.

It took us a while to decide what we would do, but after a few deliberations, we finally agreed. With a definite goal in mind, it was time to select the recycled materials that would best fit what we needed to build. Also, they had to be easy to work with, because most of the work had to be done by my daughter... in the end, we decided to us
*Image Trunk cut into cardboard*
*Image Trunk painted and armed*
We had already solved part of the problem, now we had to define how we would make the flowers. But then, I remembered that, during my daughter's first preschool year, her teacher asked for egg cartons to be sent to her to do an activity at school. As the days went by, the little girl came home from school with a big smile on her face and proudly handed me a nice little bouquet of flowers. To my surprise, the flowers were made with painted egg cartons. I had to resort again to our great friend the internet and of course we easily found how to make them. Here is the sequence of images so you can see more or less how was the process of making our cherry blossoms.
Step 1: Cutting the flowers
Step 2: Painting the flowers
Flowers in different stages of painting
Flowers and trunk ready
Once we finished painting the flowers and the trunk, we had to find a base where to place the tree, it was then that I remembered that I had a little box with a portrait holder. It was perfect to make the base we needed. Next step was to glue the tree trunk using hot silicone of course, this work was done by me, because it was very small and could burn. As a last step, once the glue was dry, we proceeded to distribute and glue the flowers on the branches of the trunk.
First flowers glued to the trunk
Now I show you the finished tree, for me it was beautiful and my daughter was very proud of her work, her eyes were shining with joy.

I hope you enjoyed my story, I for my part, as always, enjoyed helping my daughter to make her Sakura tree. I hope that what I present to you will be useful and that you will have the opportunity to build your own tree with your children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren or siblings.

Influence of learning to play a musical instrument on children's development
Greetings dear readers
In this opportunity, I will discuss a very interesting topic; it is about the influence of the learning of the musical language and the execution of an instrument in the cognitive and psychomotor development in children.
*Source*
*Imagen de* *sarab123* *en* *Pixabay* https://pixabay.com/es/photos/viol%C3%ADn-ni%C3%B1o-ni%C3%B1a-m%C3%BAsica-1617972/ https://pixabay.com/es/users/sarab123-3158022/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=1617972 https://pixabay.com/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=image&utm_content=1617972
I would like to start this topic, with my experience as the proud mother of a musician girl. This beautiful journey through the world of music, started when my oldest daughter was 4 years old, at that time, I remember ... it all started with the letters to Santa Claus and the Magi, that was when at the beginning of the year, together with others gifts, I came from the Magi a violin, which, according to the size and age of my daughter, seemed more like a keychain.
At the beginning of the activities after Christmas break, my husband and I finally decided, and impregnated by ignorance about the world of the execution of a musical instrument, we arrived at the music academy, with the firm conviction that our daughter would initiate her violin lessons, but, surprise! ... I will never forget the expression of amazement on the face of the person in charge of the inscription, (today I laugh a lot), when I tell her our expectations; it was then, when she kindly explained to us, that at that age, children usually have not yet fully developed fine motor skills, so playing an instrument such as the violin is very difficult and generally frustrating for the child, On the other hand, in the Kinder Musical program that they managed, the participants started with the Marimba or Xylophone.
***Marimba or Xylophone (photography of my authorship)***
Another very interesting detail, which I learned later on, is that, since children at that age still do not fully handle reading, they teach them by using colors, assigning a color for each note of the musical scale, allowing them to execute pieces musical, translated from the musical language to a language of colors.
Musical scale based on colors (Image of my authorship)
Now, returning to the unknown that gives rise to this writing, and in order to be able to clarify it, before it is necessary to understand, how does the child learn the musical language and how it starts in the execution of an instrument ?, according to the approach of Casas M (2001) The musical development of children between 3 and 15 years old passes through four levels: sensory manipulation, imitation, imaginative interpretation and reflection. In the particular case of the stage of musical initiation, which takes place between 3 and 7 years, approximately, the child experiences the four stages, mentioned above, favoring the development not only of the cognitive plane, but also of the affective planes and psychomotor.
But ... why is it that music learning offers these benefits? Focusing it from the perspective of music therapy, and particularly in young children, since their learning is achieved through imitation, authors such as Casas (2001) and Albornoz (2009) agree that music, by precipitating the cognitive process, greatly favors conscious observation and the capacity for attention, assimilation, comprehension, retention and evocation. In addition, it develops the sense of rhythm, directly affecting physical and motor training, benefiting the proper development of the sense of balance, laterality and motor skills. In parallel, it promotes the identification and expression of emotions, leading to the discovery and understanding of being, and the characterization of difficulties or virtues associated with emotions that affect learning.
But ..., in simple terms that means ... easy, if the teaching-learning process of music is properly oriented, it will reinforce attention and concentration in the child, increasing their memory and creativity, as well as encouraging the development of motor and rhythmic skills; It will also increase self-confidence, facilitating socialization and, last but not least, reduce stress. I do not know what you think? ... but I think it's great.
*Source* https://pixabay.com/es/m%C3%BAsica-kids-ni%C3%B1os-jugar-xil%C3%B3fono-818459/
Now, how does it translate, the previous approaches in the performance of children in other areas of their day to day?, around this question the Lic. In Music., And Civil Engineer María Victoria Casas, after reviewing exhaustively diverse studies in the fields of education, psychology and music, could conclude that, "the learning of an artistic discipline such as music during childhood, improves learning, reading, language (including foreign languages), Mathematics, in short, increases academic performance in general, further enhancing other areas of human development.
Research as presented in the article Music Enrichment Programs Improve the Neural Encoding of Speech in At-Risk Children, Journal of Neuroscience 3, and a study conducted at Northwestern University support the previous approach, agreeing that music instruction in Children, especially the youngest ones, have surprising results, obtaining more sophisticated brain responses and a more developed language in comparison with children who have not received this training. In the particular case of the study conducted at Northwestern University, among other things, it was concluded that the teaching methodology in music classes greatly influences learning and the absorption of all benefits by students, and this is largely due to the fact that students need to participate actively in the class.
I insist, do not you think it's great? ... The benefits are undeniable, right?
Photograph of my authorship
I really do not know, if in the future of my daughter, this being a professional musician, or simply music is part of her life as an extracurricular activity, what she decides ... I will support it. What I can say is that after 5 years have passed, I still thank God, because from the first day he started his musical training, he felt like a fish in the water. And although today I know, what his journey through the world of music is just beginning, I am proud of his achievements, with his just 9 years old, he not only writes and understands the musical language, but also, performs musically instruments, Xylophone, Recorder, Piano (from about two years), and very recently began his training with the Mandolin, which has allowed him to join the Orquesta Típica of the Ciudad de Lechería.
For my part, although I still consider myself musically disabled, and as Shakira would say "blind, deaf and mute", what I have managed to understand is that music enhances the soul and that being a musician is a way of life . Finally, I invite you to consider the possibility of giving your children and yourselves the opportunity to know the wonderful world of music.

Queen of the Night, a Perennial Reminder of Impossible Love
Lady at night, queen of the night or Kadapul flower, are the names with which it is commonly known, this feminine and sensual flower, which today I share with you and surely will make you dream for its complex beauty. These large and ephemeral white flowers provided with a large number of petals, resemble a star that emerges only at night, flooding the spaces where it lives with its exquisite fragrance, having a short duration, one or two nights.
This epiphyte plant belonging to the cactus family is also known as the Dutch Pipe, due to the way in which its buds develop, generating a curve that is born in the stem. In natural habitat, tropical moist forests, grow between the branches of trees, lean on them just to avoid falling, as they do not have a parasitic behavior. It is very peculiar because unlike the cacti that we commonly know, this one is devoid of leaves and thorns and its stems have the shape of palettes that at first glance resemble leaves, with irregular edges, of a very soft texture and slightly adherent to the touch. Its scientific name is Epiphyllum oxypetalum, and it is widely used as an ornamental plant, for the ease of cultivating it.
Although it is assumed that this plant is native to countries such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela. Japan, is another country where this flower has a history known as Gekka Bijin that translates as "Beauty under the Moon". Even in Sri Lanka it is called "Kadupul" whose meaning is the flower of heaven.
Also, some ancient legends link this beautiful flower with India and Vietnam. In the case of India, it is known as Brahma Kamalam, in honor of the Hindu god of creation, Lord Brahma. And according to a legend explains the desires of people who pray to God while the flower is blooming will be fulfilled.
For their part, the Vietnamese possess a beautiful and sad story, which tells that a very beautiful daughter of a monarch, fell in love with a handsome young man, who because of his plebeian status was the unworthy of the princess' love. When the illustrious father of the young woman found out, he urged her to forget this impossible love, since he was not the man he had chosen for her. However, she disobeyed her father, secretly continuing to frequent her young lover.
But, shortly after, the father learned of the furtive encounters, between the princess and her lover and full of anger, as punishment exile to his own daughter on an island, until the day of their wedding. The princess, invaded by the sadness caused by the loss of her true love, gave herself to the immense pain and died of grief.
The father, upon hearing such sad news, wept inconsolably and tells the legend that one night while he was crying bitterly, his tears fell to the rough ground of his domain, and in that wild land, the beautiful flower "Da Quynh", or queen of the night. It is said that the spirit of the princess transformed into flower, visited his father, only twice a year, displaying its beauty and a powerful and delicious perfume only at night, denying his presence again at dawn. This as a perennial reminder of impossible love, and of the pain produced by the intransigence of a father.

Nerium Oleander, the most poisonous plant in the world
Greetings, welcome everyone to my little corner of peace on the day, my name is Francy Rios and I am Venezuelan. Although I work professionally as a University Teacher, in the career of Systems Engineering, I am passionate about photography. So in this blog I will share with you my work in the photographic field.
I will begin by sharing with you a very beautiful flower that I have known since I was a child, although I mistakenly called it by the name of Queen Flower. Of course when I looked for it on the web, I could not find it by that name. After an exhaustive search on the net, I discovered that it is commonly known as, Neriun, Oleander, flowering laurel, laurel rose, baladre or trinitaria.
*The Adelfa, at a scientific level was identified as Nerium oleander, being the only species so far included within the genus Nerium, belonging to the family of the Apocynaceae.*
*The Mediterranean origin of this bush, has given it the peculiarity of being very resistant to drought and coupled with its large and beautiful flowers, makes it very attractive at the ornamental level. This fact has helped it to spread widely in several countries with a tropical climate, such as Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Honduras.*
*There are several uses for this plant besides the ornamental one, for example previously the ash that is obtained from its wood was used in the manufacture of gunpowder. On a cosmetological level, its macerated leaves are used to deal with dandruff and hair loss.*
*Finally, it is necessary to emphasize, that one must be very careful with this plant, because it is as beautiful as it is dangerous. It is considered to be the most poisonous plant in the world, because each part of this bush is highly toxic, to the point that it can kill a person in case of being consumed by mistake.*
