La Valette Undergound Military Museum I am not really a fan of wars but I do appreciate the blood and sweat the vetarans shed for the freedom that we are enjoying today. Guernsey, although seems remote and separate to the world, happens to be rich in war histories as they played a role during the World War I and II. So it is not surprising to have a lot of War Museums in this very tiny island. Today I will be talking about the La Valette Underground Military Museum. The museum depicts Guernsey's military involvement from the First World War and also the German Occupation of the island during the Second World War from 1940 to 1945. The museum was originally built by the Germans to be tunnels to store fuels for their U-boats but never been completed. Hence it is a pretty small museum size-wise. The tunnels were then converted into a Museum in the late 1980s which took 2 years to finish. Because of its extensive coverage on Guernsey's Military History especially during the German Occupancy and liberation of the island, this Museum was award-winning. It is very popular for people who want to explore Guernsey's History Trails. The entry fees currently at the time of me writing this article is: for adults £7.50 ; seniors £6.00; and children £2.50. Personally, I think it is pretty excessive for a museum that is viewable for less than 30 minutes. But I guess we can say history has a price and maybe to people who are really into military stuff it is well worth it. I would still see recommend for people to see it at least once. It is quite interesting to see old things. And sometimes try to guess what they were used for. That concludes my visit. I hope you enjoyed the photos and some history. I tried not to be too boring. Guernsey's Bathing Pools For those of you who have not heard of Guernsey, it is a beautiful island in the English Channel which is not part of the UK but also not very separate from the UK. It is still a British territory but it is governed by a different law. I have had the privilege to work in this island and today I want to share to you one of my favourite features of this summer paradise, its bathing pools. These pools are collectively called La Vallette Bathing Pools, which was built back in the 1840s, and is located in the Parish of St. Peter Port. These were built to atone for the loss of beaches brought about by the extension of the St. Peter Port harbour. The Bathing pools are comprised of four natural pools namely: men's pool; horse-shoe pool; ladies pool; and the children's pool. Natural in a sense that they aren't treated by chlorines and are filled only with sea water which accumulates during the high tides. Since I am quite eccentric, I used to enjoy swimming in agonisingly freezing waters here on the cold winter months as it makes me feel so alive and renewed. On the summer months, it is even better as the waters become more conducive for swimming and the pool borders serves as a good sunbathing spot This is the men's pool on a high tide. This is the horse shoe pool as it is shaped quite like a horse shoe. This pool is directly connected to the sea. It has no boundaries unlike the other pools. This is the ladies' pool but as you probably have noticed it is now a unisex pool. There aren't any gender segregations anymore.

Hello I'm Flo: Short Introduction Hello lovely members. I recently joined this site 3 days ago although I am not unfamiliar of the related site which was noise. This is a short segment just to introduce myself to this community. Well as the title says my name is Flo. I am from the beautiful country called the Philippines but I am now in the UK. I am a registered nurse so it gets me to travel places. I have worked and lived in Australia for 3 years then moved to mainland UK, and then even tried working in one of the British Channel Islands called Guernsey. My hobbies are: eating, talking to cats, sunbathing, swimming, collecting sea glass, and gold digging online. I have been hustling online for 11-12 years now but I'm a bit too lazy to write long articles. I have decided to give it a try by joining this site. I think that's all for now. Immigration Nightmare I am a nurse who used to work in Guernsey and was trying to move to the mainland UK to be closer to family. So I did interviews and managed to find a job for a private company who granted me a certificate of sponsorship. I then proceeded to lodge an application for UK visa on the 9th of May this year thinking I would only have to wait 6-8 weeks to get it. I ended my job in Guernsey on the 28th of May leaving me with no work visa. But it was okay because I was thinking I needed a little bit of breather before I start a new job. Fast forward it is now 28th of August, three months has passed since I resigned and still not a sign of my visa. I tried calling UK home office for support only to get frustrating generic responses and false reassurances which aren't really helpful. I was told to wait 8 weeks, then more, and that there is nothing else I can do. Meanwhile, I am running out of resources since I am paying bills without a pay check. I am very frustrated. It is just hard when someone is in charge of your life and you cannot do anything about it. I am very disappointed by the lack of proper support from UK home office as long as adequate communication regarding as to what stage of the application I am in or if my papers are being processed already. All I can really do now is pray and hope I get it soon so this nightmare could end. And lean on people who loves me and supports me despite the crisis. This is a very humbling experience.
