Hello everyone! These are two Asian elephants from the Moscow Zoo. The photo was taken in 2008. These elephants have a difficult history of appearance in the Moscow Zoo. It was in 1985. Vietnam as a gift to Cuba sent on board the ship 7 young elephants. They have come a long way. But when the ship approach to Cuba, the gifted found out that the elephants had been vaccinated against foot and mouth disease. This disease has never been met in Cuba. And the Cubans, being afraid to bring an infection, refused the gift. And 7 elephants hang out on the ship in the sea for six months already and somehow they are no longer good. The Soviet Union agreed to accept these elephants and they sailed to Leningrad. Again the long journey. One of the animals died on the way. They arrived in winter, in frosts. From Leningrad brought to Moscow. The elephants were already very weak and exhausted. Another elephant was not saved. The remaining five elephants was saved in the Moscow Zoo, then two females were given to the Berlin Zoo. I read about this story on the site of the Moscow Zoo. When I was at the Moscow Zoo, there lived three elephants, two females Pipita and Prima and one male Pamir. I think that in the photo there are two females, Pipita and Prima. Sisters with an appetite dine with willow branches. I think they are smiling. Prima died in 2014. And at family Pipita with Pamir in May 2017 was born the third child in their life. * Всем привет! Вьетнам в подарок Кубе отправил на корабле 7-х молодых слонов. Они проделали долгий путь. Но при подходе корабля к Кубе одариваемые выяснили, что слонам сделана прививка от ящура. На Кубе эта болезнь никогда не встречалась и, побоявшись завезти инфекцию, кубинцы отказались от подарка. А 7 слонов болтаются на корабле в море уже полгода и как-то им уже нехорошо. Советский Союз согласился принять этих слонов и они поплыли в Ленинград. Опять дальний путь. По дороге одно из животных погибло. Прибыли зимой, в морозы. Из Ленинграда доставили в Москву. Слоны уже были очень слабы и истощены. Ещё одну слониху не спасли. Оставшихся пятерых слонов в Московском зоопарке выходили, затем двух самок отдали в Берлинский зоопарк. Об этой истории я прочла на сайте Московского зоопарка. Когда я была в Московском зоопарке, там жили трое слонов, две самки Пипита и Прима и один самец Памир. Думаю, что на фотографии две самки Пипита и Прима. Сестрички с аппетитом обедают ивовыми ветками. Мне кажется, они улыбаются. Прима умерла в 2014 году. А у Пипиты и Памира в мае 2017 родился третий в их жизни слонёнок.
