𝑽𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒐𝒑 This is a view of a section of "Ipoh Oldtown", as captured from the top-most floor of Cititel Express Ipoh (hotel). The field is called Ipoh Padang - padang is 'field' in the Malay language. Interestingly, this field was established in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee (1897). During the days of British colony, this field hosted many international sporting tournaments, particularly cricket. Later, during the Japanese Occupation, Japanese government officials based in Ipoh gathered here to participate in a bowing and allegiance ceremony every morning at 8am. Today, this field is used as a recreational ground, and the occasional sporting event (before the pandemic).
