FOODlog #34: Indian Curry & Vegetables Went to a nearby Indian restaurant today that I haven't eaten at for more than a year. They used to serve banana leaf rice but when we went today it is no longer on the menu and only the usual Nasi Kandar style food. When they first opened the quality and taste of the food was really exceptionally good. But after time went by the quality and taste dropped to a very low standard and now after lockdowns, decided to give it a try. Its a little better than the last time I ate it but still no where near the standard of when it first started. Maybe the chef changed or food cost has gone up forcing them to use lesser quality ingredients but definitely something big has changed. Anyway, today we got some rice with curry. We had fried chicken that was decent, some mutton curry and 2 types of vegetables. A spinach dish and a brinjal dish.
The mutton curry was tasty but the cut of meat had a lot of bones and fat but not much meat. It was tender and I love mutton fat but this had almost no meat and mostly fully fat or just bones. The spinach was alright but not well balanced with the spices. The best thing we had today was the brinjal which was sweet and the gravy was a thick tomatoey paste. Very delicious. We also were served some crispy and well fried papadom.
All in all, I rate this place 5/10 and average. I guess the saving grace was the delicious brinjal and crispy papadom and also the iced milk tea was good as well.
