FOODlog #90: Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang Last week after sending my son to school in the morning, I stopped by a roadside stall to get some breakfast. Nowadays there are plenty of roadside stalls popping up that are selling food throughout the day. This little stall had local breakfast delights like 'Nasi Lemak' with lots of dishes to choose from like fried chicken, 'sambal' squid, rendang, and some other vegetables. They also had a few varieties of fried noodles to choose from. I only had like RM8 (<2 USD) on me so I asked how much did their food cost to consider what items to pick. I was quite surprised that the food was quite cheap which I'm not sure to be happy or sad as I'm happy that it's cheap for me but sad for them that they are earning peanuts for cooking such complex food that take lots of effort to prepare. I got for myself a 'Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang' and also added a fried egg. The 'Nasi Lemak' came with the usual condiments of every other 'Nasi Lemak' which were some slices of cucumber, roasted groundnuts, and some fried anchovies, together with the coconut steamed rice and 'sambal' on the side.

It was all packed in a nice little parcel of a layer of plastic and brown paper bag-type wrapper. This meal cost me RM6 (+- 1.5 USD) which was a steal. The food tasted good and the rendang was quite generous although at this price it of course wasn't the best cuts of meat. The taste of the rendang was more like the flavors of 'satay' but overall it was a nice breakfast to have.

I'll definitely be dropping by again to grab a bite when I do send my son to school. Perhaps trying out their fried noodles next time round.
