It originates in the Black Forest Mountains in Germany from its source branches Breg and Brigah near the city of Donaueschingen. The Danube is about 2850 km long, flows through several central European capitals, before flowing into the Black Sea through the Danube Delta in Romania and Ukraine. In history, the Danube was one of the most permanent borders of the Roman Empire. The river flows through or forms the border of 10 countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine. The length of the Danube through Serbia is 588 km. The Danube starts from Donaueschingen where the two smaller rivers Breg and Brigah meet, and from there the Danube is called Donau. However, on a marble slab in the Firstenberg Park near Donaueschingen, which is much older than the monographic record of the place, at the very source of the Brigah River, it is written: CAPUT DANUBII, i.e. The head of the Danube. Dragi moji danas ću vam pisati o Dunavu. Zašto o Dunavu? Zato što odlazim na Dunav na pecanje i tamo ću boraviti oko mesec dana tako da me jedno vreme ovde neće biti. Imam toliko fotografija sa Dunava da ne znam koje ću odabrati kao prateće uz ovaj tekst. Hajde malo nešto o Dunavu a svi znamo za Štarusov valcer: Na lepom plavom Dunavu... Dunav je druga reka po dužini u Evropi nakon Volge. Nastaje na planini Švarcvald u Nemačkoj od svojih izvorišnih krakova Breg i Brigah kod grada Donauešingena. Dunav je dugačak oko 2850 km, protiče kroz nekoliko centralnoevropskih glavnih gradova, pre nego što se ulije u Crno more kroz deltu Dunava u Rumuniji i Ukrajini. Dunav je u istoriji bio jedna od najstalnijih granica Rimskog carstva. Reka protiče kroz ili čini granicu 10 država: Nemačku, Austriju, Slovačku, Mađarsku, Hrvatsku, Srbiju, Rumuniju, Bugarsku, Moldaviju i Ukrajinu. Dužina Dunava kroz Srbiju iznosi 588 km. Dunav počinje od Donauešingena gde se spajaju dve manje reke Breg i Brigah pa odatle Dunav nosi naziv Donau. Međutim na mermernoj ploči u Firstenberškom parku kod Donauešingena, koja je mnogo starija od monografskog zapisa mesta, na samom vrelu reke Brigah, piše: CAPUT DANUBII, tj. Glava Dunava.
