I have had friends who would tell me that INVESTING and GAMBLING are the same thing. I was desparate to convince them that their thinking was ERRONEOUS. But I could never find the right words to say. FINALLY! I found someone else's words to say. The next time a friend tries to tell me that gambling and investing are the same, I'm going to say: *** “Investing is not speculation. You believe in an asset and support it by funding it. Top investors have scrutinized the market and performed thorough research. ” To that quote I would add: *** "Gambling is just a game of chance, requires no research, and is quite often comprised of guessing, wishing, and hoping." Agreed. The problem is that people often gamble, and claim they are investing. For example, day trading or buying/selling options. If you don't have "insider information", (which is illegal, but we know how the world works), you are essentially gambling, even though you may be messing around with stocks, and can therefore claim to be "investing".
