When I was growing up and learning how to cook, making a perfect pot of rice was the hardest thing. My rice always turned out gummy! I threw away lots of pots of rice because nobody would eat it. I finally started using Uncle Ben's Rice. It was parboiled and it came out perfect every time. But I was still confused about why my rice was always sticky or gummy. Anyway! Long story short, after watching a lot of cooking shows and videos, I learned that there is more than one way to cook a perfect pot of rice. According to this food blogger, there are 7 different ways. I settled on using the oven method. Why? Because the pots and pans in my kitchen are about 30 years old. The rice comes out better when I put the old pot in the oven. When I leave it on a stove-top burner, it usually burns a t the bottom. Hey! When you're cooking you do what works for you! The goal is to prepare food that people will eat so that you don't have to throw it away. Here in the Philippines the rice cooker method is the standard method, particularly when used with jasmine rice.
