The last 2 judges of the ancient nation of Israel were Eli and Samuel. In addition to being judges they were also prophets, priests and fathers of sons. I'll bet if you asked them which job was the hardest, they would say: Being a father. In spite of their exemplary lives as faithful servants of God, they both had wayward sons who chose not to follow in their footsteps. It broke their hearts. In the case of Eli, it actually broke his neck. It's a difficult story to read. But should be required reading for all parents.
