GREENVILLE, Texas: "Cotton Capital of the World". Its incredibly fertile black soil produces excellent cotton which at one time was the primary cash crop for the local economy. However, these days tourism plays an important part in the local economy. Do not be confused when researching information about this place because there's a Greenville in Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio and I don't know how many other US States. People like the name “Greenville”. At any rate there's not a lot of excitement going in this city. So if you want to go some place that's quiet, you might vist Greenville, Texas. On the plus side, it's real close to Dallas if you want to drive to a nearby bustling metropolis. “Greenville, county seat of Hunt County TX, was established in 1846. Isn't there a city in the southern US that has a monument to the cotton boll weevil? Oh yeah, here it is, (stolen from Wikipedia): "The Boll Weevil Monument in downtown Enterprise, Alabama, United States is a prominent landmark and tribute erected by the citizens of Enterprise in 1919 to show their appreciation to an insect, the boll weevil, for its profound influence on the area's agriculture and economy." The point is that the stupid weevil forced many communities to stop being reliant on only one product, cotton, for their economic well being.
