Do You Make Thinking Mistakes?

I am always interested in ways to boost my creativity and brain power.  But I never thought that my brain might be making "Thinking Mistakes".  I found a wonderful blog post published by BufferApp.com that straightened me out on what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. Reference: Cooper, Belle B. "8 Common Thinking Mistakes Our Brains Make Every Day." *Buffer Social*. Buffer, 30 Sept. 2013. Web. 08 Mar. 2015. https://draft.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/2884364668287858460/1435184533808062677

The post is very detailed and provides a lot of food for thought. I'm sharing the link above and summarizing my thoughts below. ♦ PER Ms. Cooper: Mistake (1) We surround ourselves with information that matches our beliefs Mistake (2) We believe in the “swimmer’s body” illusion Mistake (3) We worry about things we’ve already lost Mistake (4) We incorrectly predict odds Mistake (5) We rationalize purchases we don’t want *** * * PER Me**: Mistakes #1 through #5? *Not me. No way! Hey! Everybody has their weaknesses and things that tempt them. But these are not mine!* ♦ PER Ms. Cooper: Mistake (6) We make decisions based on the anchoring effect (She shared an example having to choose between Hershey’s Kisses and Lindt Truffles. She shared several examples but as a chocolate lover, this is the one that stuck!) *** * * PER Me:** Mistake #6? *I would never make this mistake because when it comes to Hershey’s Kisses and Lindt Truffles – you don't choose. You take both!* 😊 ♦ PER Ms. Cooper: Mistake (7) We believe our memories more than facts *** * * Per Me:** Mistake #7? *Alright! I confess! I was wrong about who the original artist was that sang the song! But I really thought it was Petula Clark!! That's how I remembered it! There are so many of my memories that are not facts. As it is that way with many other people. Fortunately, now we have Google. When someone says argues with you or challenges you about the facts, you say to them, with an air of authority:* *“*Don't make me Google it!” 😊 ♦ PER Ms. Cooper: Mistake (8) We pay more attention to stereotypes than we think *** * * PER Me:** Mistake #8? *Fine! I admit it!! Shame on me. GUILTY!! But I can and will make a genuine conscious effort correct this mistake.* 😊
