~On art and copying~ #adoniis_art People are always saying that when you copy, it's not real art. I strongly disagree with that! (As long as you don't claim someone else's art as your own - that's plagiarism. Really bad.) Not everyone is granted with the ability to draw from their imagination, but there's nothing wrong with using a reference! š #art_facts For example realism or hyper-realism artists (not only them) used real life as a reference. Impressionists focused on atmosphere and light in nature - they emphasized a specific element of "reality". In Renesaince (and even sooner for sure) young artists copied their master's paintings to learn the technique and then often created their own art off that experience. I used a photo reference to draw these two portraits. I always try to add something interesting or new to the original to take it further š I think that's how you develop a specific style. My style is that I usually don't copy the photograph as a whole, but I make the drawing more flowy and sketch-like. I also added color to those to give it fantasy or glitch-y appearance. Were these arguments convincing? Did it change someone's opinion? š I'm feeling kind of philosophical today, sorry š

Nice topic, bring it on! At your first line I was about to mention the copying technique is ancient as can be... and I'm happy you mentioned it. After all we can practice with just imitating and doing and doing.After every artist used to the technique, then comes the other part, the idea, the vision as free as it can be. Maybe I will share some philosophical thoughts later, but I need to mention that the glitchy effects gave another layer.... it's quite interesting in drawing, I like it!
Yeah. In the end it's all about the idea, just as you're saying š all the traditional techniques are already mastered, so why not to use them without regrets
Well in the matter of drawing things figuratively... it may be mastered already.... but there is sooo many aspect to do in the abstract, conceptual place ... and playing with materials... but ultimately we can agree that idea, technique can make or brake an artwork ... but the best and rare when the two strengthen each other.... Bringing new medium characteristics, as you did with the glitch part... it opens quite a lot of possibilities there..... >D So I'm curious what's next! Take Care! >D
