TFIF - Thank Fuck It's Friday! lol This week has dragged on long enough, but in good news, we've made it to Friday, which means it's time for me to share another album on here! Today's FULL ALBUM FRIDAY is The Spirit Tower by the band Fairytale Abuse. This one takes me back to the winter of 2005 when I first found it. This one was posted on Demonoid (a popular Torrent site back in the day) and the cover piqued my interest. The industry likes to cry about piracy being bad, but for more obscure bands it's really a great way to get your name out there. If I close my eyes when listening to this album, it teleports me back to waiting at specific bus stops at the dead of winter on my way to college. Vivid flashbacks, it's bonkers. Fairytale Abuse formed in 1995, but it wouldn't be until 2004 before they finally released their first full-length album: The Spirit Tower. Fairytale Abuse are considered melodic black metal - so they still carry the brutally heavy sound that comes with black metal, but with a much more cohesive melodic aspect. I often joke that traditional black metal sounds like every member of the band playing a different song at the same time - melodic black metal fixes this issue. Black Metal is unfortunately also home to a lot of "socialist nationalism" (aka: white supremacist) bands. Fairlytale Abuse are very much against this, holding a strong anti-NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal) stance. The Spirit Tower brings 8 awesome songs and clocks in just under 40 minutes.
