Happy #FullAlbumFriday everybody! Today's an interesting one, and one that I really don't expect anybody to listen to in its entirety... Hear me out (read more after the link and stuff) The Caretaker - Everywhere At The End of Time Rakrakan-O-Meter: [██████████] - Whoa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJWksPWDKOc If you clicked that link, you'll understand why. This album in its entirety is 6 and a half hours, and listening through it without context will leave you really scratching your head and wondering what the actual shit you just heard. You see, this album is actually a series of 6 albums that play as a series. The further into the album you get, the weirder the music becomes until eventually it's just a slurry of noises. Near the end, the clarity of the music comes back again for a brief moment and then turns to silence. But it's not the music itself that gives this album the 10/10 on the Rakrakan-O-Meter. It's not even the noise that does it. It's the meaning behind the whole concept. This album was designed in a way to emulate Alzheimer's. Each album is referred to as a "stage" and is designed to musically emulate what a person with Alzheimer's might experience during that stage of the illness. At the start of the album, the music is easy to identify and almost hum along with. As it gets further in, the music becomes more and more distant and confusing until you can no longer recognize it at all. At certain points there are some haunting callbacks to the start of the album that you can almost pluck out, but are just a bit too muffled/chopped to confirm whether that really is it. At some points there are slightly more clear samples from earlier on when you experience lucidity. At the end of it all, the memories come rushing back for only a brief moment (in relation to the 6.5 hour journey) as you briefly get your memory back before finally fading into silence as you experience death. Each of the album covers get a bit more abstract and dark as the stages progress, finally ending with Stage 6 (couldn't add the pic, only 5 pics/post allowed on Noise) which snaps back to a coherent image that is simply a yellow door with a blue # taped on it. I can't think of anything I've listened to that hits harder than this. I had to listen to it over the span of a few nights (6.5 hours is way too much for one sitting in my busy life) but it really packed such a punch.
