Another sunrise, another hot day. But it never gets boring. What struck me this morning was that, at 7 am, there is a slightly cool breeze that's blowing and a wee bit of chill that's floating in the atmosphere. The inside of the house feels a bit warm and muggy though. Maybe, I have to leave more windows open overnight to let the house cool down.

It's been a fixit week - after the last break-it week. Washing machine leak: fixed. Crashed church laptop: fixed Wonky water purifier: fixed Church projector and tv: hopefully fixed (have to check it tomorrow) I wonder what else I need to fix. It's been an expensive week!

A sliver of life. After some roses bloomed more than a month ago, I pruned a few small branches in my rose plant, and finally a new branch has sprung out of it this morning. It looks fragile and frail and I hope it grows stronger and bears a few roses. I'm also hoping that more new branches sprout out!

My portulaca (table rose plants) had all been destroyed by mealybugs. One small part of one of the plants survived and after month, started giving out new leaves. Initially these looked fragile and unhealthy, but the plant has survived. And today, I saw twin bugs on it. I hope it survives and gives a few flowers!!

Busy morning getting ready for church and took a hurried shot of the dawn light which I will post later. Busy at church and forgot to take the beautiful open landscape on the hot day with a hill and blue skies. It's now afternoon at home and the blue skies and dry hill is symbolic of how hot it is. Dehydration is my enemy and water is my friend!

Dawn is a great way to start the day with nature. Today, I managed to catch the view of dawn before the sun got over the hill. The orange hue was good, although there was a very smoky haze all over the city. One is a panaroma shot and the other w regular shot. Both are unedited, but do not capture the actual colors of dawnbreak! Reality is often better than a photograph.

Another blazing sunrise on a hot April morning. There are 2 clouds flirting dangerously with the sun and one of them is too close! April means real summer and May will be realer summer. How exciting! It's 80 degrees Fahrenheit and will hit 103 degrees.

Small flowers have a very unique way of looking pretty, especially when they are arranged in a cluster. The true beauty of each flower is enhanced and it's worth getting down to the ground and close to these flowers (?lantanas) to see how awesome they are.... and of course whip out the phone to grab a pic while you're there!

A different perspective of the usual hill I post to show the sunrise and weather. It's earlier (had to make a quick visit to someone at 5 am) and it's from the ground level and not my balcony. The glow due to the sun has hues of pink, purple, blue, red and orange. The camera captured very little of the pretty colors, but it still looks calming. More fishes! I had promised my kids that I'd buy more fishes if the 2 betta fishes survived. The 2 betta fishes survived and so I took my son out to get a small glass aquarium and a few guppies and zebra fishes. We got some artificial plants and pebbles to make it look better. I hope these survive too.

One of the things I love about the long Sunday drive to church is the incredible spaces I get to see. This view from the car shows you just that - vast fields in various shades of green and brown, a lovely row of coconut trees, a hill on the horizon and endless skies with barely any buildings to block the view!!

Mid day coffee. I rarely buy a cuppa coffee, but did that after lunch today. I was going to another office to spend the next 2 hours where I had to do a lot of talking. I had a scratchy throat with a rough voice and wanted something hot to soothe myself. Picked up this cuppa on the second floor counter and sipped on it as I started work. It felt good, but i ultimately had to take the afternoon off to recuperate.

6 am. I decided to step on to the balcony as soon as I woke up and was greeted by this brilliant sight of orange clouds splattered randomly across the sky. The air feels cool, but the orange glow tells me that the day will heat up really quickly .

Just a random shot taken late last evening when we were out in the play park. This broken (and dead?) tree trunk still looks rugged and beautiful even though it probably doesn't have a chance of survival. It adds a rustic touch to the park area. As you can see kids use it as a sand play accessory!!

For some reason, this kite stuck on a treetop reminded me of my carefree days as a child. This kite was being flown by children in a nearby house a few days ago and last evening I saw it stuck on the tree. I'm still trying to figure out why it reminded.me of my childhood days.

Wide open spaces. We took a little walk today through village roads and hit lovely spaces that were wide open and beautiful. Plenty of fields and skies and hills in the background. The quiet morning was filled with the sounds of birds chirping and soft insects.

Away from home for a day and managed to find a hill with sunrise to showcase the weather. One of the things I love about Sundays is the peaceful getaway from the bustle of the city to the calm of open spaces in the rural regions. The dry brown foreground with the brilliant blue above and the lonesome hill sandwiched between is soothing to the soul.

The crown of thorns plant I have at home is small and has tiny flowers. It is kept in a pot. This one I saw in a garden was HUGE. The plant itself was large and quite widespread. The flowers were much larger than what I have. They're a pretty pastel shade of pink. And I could see some insects enjoying the flowers from close quarters.

Flowers have weird shapes and weird names! This is apparently called a lollipop plant! I'm not gonna debate about whether it fits the flower shape or not! I saw this in a plant nursery and gave in to the temptation of buying it. I hope it survived my brown thumb.

Smoke in the morning. This is getting more and more annoying. There are several locations around our home where garbage or dry leaves are getting burnt every morning. This morning I could make out three spaces within a street of our location where smoke was billowing up to the skies. I wish people would be more sensible and the authorities will be stricter.

I had posted a few days ago that the portulaca plant had died and then resuscitated itself. There were flower buds starting to show a few days ago and finally, it looks like this flower will bloom today. Fingers crossed that the mealybugs stay off this time around!

This hibiscus is much larger than the usual ones I have seen. It's a brilliant shade of red with a slight pinkish hue. And it was a joy to see so many of them at a garden I visited on the weekend.

I saw this unique flower with petals that looked like a bunch of knitting threads! The purple color is terrific and this flower stood Putin the garden I had visited on the weekend. Nature has such unique flowers, the variety and colors of which are unimaginable!

I've been mesmerized by the number of colors on this flower and how beautifully they all look together - the petals, the sepals, the central core and all around. It's apparently called the blanket plant or flower. I have to figure out how it got that name.

There's a healthy splash of clouds in the sky, but the sun wins easily. The clouds are barely able to stop the heat and the morning is hot - 28 degrees Celsius at the start!! The funky lollipop plant with supercute flowers has a new enemy - cheeky squirrels! Or is it naughty rats! I went to water them this morning and found some bad animal had bitten off a lot of the leaves during a late night party and had left the plant partly denuded. I must now think of a way to catch this animal or protect my new plant. This is war!!

I failed. I lost the war. The parasite rodent / squirrel won the battle. My lollipop plant is no more. I had put plastic spikes to try and stop the rat/squirrel from getting to the plant. The more you look, the more you'll find. I've crossed this plant at the entrance of the building hundreds of times. Today I took the time to look at the flowers closely and boy! was I impressed. It looks plainly pink, but it's so pretty. The details on the centre are fantastic. And the buds were a different shade of pink that added a splash of extra color to this plant.

It's almost 5 pm here - very different from the morning pics I post to show the weather. Blue, blue skies. Not a drop of clouds or rains. And plenty of shadows and lights separated by nothingness on the earth. Google tells me it hit 40 degrees Celsius hours ago and is now a slightly cooler 37 degrees - that's about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Life is not a bed of lavender. A slightly twisted way of thinking when I saw hundreds of these lavender colored flowers strewn on the floor beneath the tree. I was tempted to just lie down on it and loose myself in the beauty of gazing up on to the lavender flowers crowding the tree above.

Car trouble: Had an unfortunate incident, where the car brakes gave problems and I rolled into the car in front. There was some damage to the car in front, but after a little anger, they were very calm and friendly and we shook hands, exchanged numbers and left. Trying to find a service center or garage at 5 pm on a Sunday is tough. Finally found a person to tow the car and after a bit of adventure, left it inside an authorised service center and left. My poor little car. After the little incident with the brakes problem, it's being checked at the service station. It looks like the service engineers are doing a strip search of the car to find out the problem. The wheels are all off and the brakes have been removed to find out what is wrong. Do bees have knees? Does it matter? This phrase on solvemedia tempted me to Google and I quickly realised that the phrase ' bees knees' was an idiom and referred to something / someone who was very good or excellent. The history for this phrase seems unclear - was it because bees work hard or is it because they carry pollen on their knees or is it just a weird way of pronouncing 'business'? I usually get random cloud designs in the sky and in summers, the clouds can be non-existent! So it was a pleasant surprise to see these clouds this morning. I love the way the fluffy clouds are beautifully arranged and look like a veil that is shielding the sun!!

Melted chocolate anyone? A colleague at work treated us all to sweets and chocolate (have to find out the reason!!). It was individually wrapped toblerone chocolate and I grabbed one. As I unwrapped it at my desk, i6 realised how hot the weather was! The chocolate bar had melted to a shapeless lump. Who cares! I just literally licked it off the cover!!

The froth at the end of the coffee. Frothy milk adds a nice texture to the morning coffee and this is how it settles at the end of the cup. I stare at it for a few seconds before the glass goes into the sink. Goodbye and see you again tomorrow.

Out of death comes life. More portulaca flowers are getting ready to bloom from the plant that almost died with mealybug infestation. The plant is still much smaller and thinner than what it was. Symbolically, you can see this new bud next to a flower than bloomed yesterday and has now wilted.

When the mobile networks sucks, life feels much better. Spent 3 days in a place with poor signal in most spaces around me and zilch internet in the room. We were spending time with students at a Christian camp and the real world interaction was much better than the virtual interaction that so easily overpowers us. I ended up with lots of real memories and photographs! I guess you'll have to bear with my posts for the next few days!!

I left our old phone in the car for a few hours and this is what showed up when I got it out! This is an old iPhone that I allow my son to use for photographs and occasional internet usage! Thankfully, there seems to be no permanent damage and the phone was working week after a while when it cooled down. PS: The screen cracks are old and have nothing to do with the heating up!!

Campfire: It's been years since I attended a campfire. Although I was mostly a spectator and the students did all the fun stuff, the general feeling of warmth and goodness was amazing. The setting, which was far from the town, and the calmness with chirping insects was superb.

We made a highway stop at Cafe Coffee Day on the drive back home last evening. The coffee prices are increasing and this was an expensive break with just some coffee and sandwiches. The coffee art itself looked tired and the AC was not working. So we sat outdoors and enjoyed the warm evening breeze. Since it was wide open spaces all around, there was an air of relaxation. Worth a stop if you're tired, but not routinely.

Saw this funky flower at a bird exhibition where we could enter a meshed enclosure and play with the birds. I love it's wavy petals and elaborate centre. The shade of yellow makes it stand out. Do you know what flower this is?

We did a tough trek up a hill on Saturday. Almost ripped my knees off! This is the view from the first stop which is a mild climb. There were intermittent views during the climb for an hour, and on reaching the top, I forgot to take pics of the views.

We went to a bird park where a small collection of colorful birds could be fed by hand. Some of them were friendly - like this cute cockatiel that sat on my son's hand and ate the seeds happily!

I always get nervous when I need to do a major update on my phone. I'd been pushing this update off for a few weeks, but finally got down to getting the job done. I plugged it into the charger (I'm paranoid that the battery will run out of charge in the middle of an update!) and then also connected to a stable wifi. Caught the sun earlier than usual as it was just peeking out from the hill. The brilliant shades of orange and red are terrific! Over the last few months, the sun rises more to the left than before. Coffee beans before the slaughter? I wonder if coffee beans are excited as they get thrown into the grinder to be ground into a powder and then brewed into a cuppa. Or are they scared??!! How many pens do you use at work? Although I write very little at work, i use up a lot of pens. The reason? I lose them!! I just keep them on the common desk, at home, near the computer and end up with no pen to use at work. So I've bought this set of 25 pens and have left them at my desk from yesterday. I'm already ony second one - I have no idea what happened to the first one I started using yesterday!!

The bird park we visited last week also had some interesting reptiles. This green one was large - several feet long. It has an ominous look as it looked out at me. I wouldn't dare get closer to it.

When the setting sun is still blazing hot, the playground will be empty. It's past 5 pm, but the temperature is too hot to play. I'm sure the playground will slowly fill up in the next half hour as it becomes a touch cooler.

COVID has changed our perspective of many words. Pre covid, a water bottle with a label 'fresh wave' would have been refreshing and hydrating. Now, with covid cases going up again, it almost looks like this is referring to the next wave of covid. #wth
