A love letter from the person you secretly envy… Do not compare yourself to me As you know not what battles I have fought You know not what mountains I have climbed And you know not what struggles I have endured in life Do not compare yourself to me As you know not what my start in life was Where I have come from And the secret advantages and disadvantages life has afforded me. While my life may appear perfect and flawless to the outside world And while I may seem to have it all No one has everything together all the time No one is immune to the trials and pitfalls of the human experience No one’s life is devoid of challenges and obstacles And no one is capable of completely avoiding pain, loss and rejection. Do not compare yourself to me As you can never truly see me accurately Or in my entirety As you don’t have a behind-the-scenes access pass to my life And you romanticize me By taking a positive trait I possess And believing that be a reflection of who I am Rather than a small aspect of my identity And you see what you want to see By filling in the gaps of what you don’t know with a beautiful, idyllic story And projecting the fantasy of who you think I am Onto me. Do not compare yourself to me Because it will never be a fair comparison As we possess different genetic makeups And have lived through completely different things And though we may share a lot in common We are on different paths We possess different talents and strengths And we have different purposes And were not destined for the same things in life. Do not compare yourself to me As what is meant for me No one can take from me While what is meant for you No one can take from you And do not compare yourself to me Because I was once envious of you And I have finally learned to embrace who I am And to not compare myself to you.
