The OG show is considered campy as anything these days, but as a kid in the 60's it was the best thing happening (although at first I wanted to call it 'Star Track' but I was 6 years old, Mom corrected me). However, Picard won me over to TNG.
I had that discussion today that Picard was absolute a more popular captain than Kirk. His character I think spoke to a broader audience vs Kirk but also the visual effects had massively improved by that point so more people stuck with it I think. OG still has a place in my heart though
