I was just lying there at night, scrolling and getting annoyed with myself for no reason, when my phone buzzed. It was her. “Hey, you still up? Hope your day wasn’t as rubbish as mine lol.” I laughed for real. She didn’t know I needed to hear that. We ended up talking about nothing for almost an hour—burnt noodles, bad network, the kind of small stuff that usually doesn’t matter. But it mattered then. By the time we said goodnight, I felt lighter. Like someone had switched on a small light in my head. I used to think you needed deep talks to feel close when you’re far apart. Turns out, just showing up with a messy text at 9pm does more. I sent her the same kind of message this morning. Feels good to be the reason someone else feels a little better too. If you’ve got someone far from you, don’t overthink it. Just check on them. Even a bad joke works.
